  1. Hello Folks

I have upgraded SUPERAntispyware to the 4.26 version but found that

I can not get it activated.

It says that I need OKD on my harddrive to be able to use it. I have

    never heard of this before.

Kindly inform me what it means, and how to activate it.

I have not had this problem with the previous version of SASpyware.

I have lots of free space on both my harddrives.

I use Win 98SE on this PC.

Your advice will be most appreciated.

    Thanks.

  2. Good day

I have been exp. problems with the downloading of stuff from the

Internet, such as e-books, programs, etc.

A download would start in the normal fashion but would simply stop

after a while, even if it has only completed say, only 3% or 5% of the

download, and then show that it has completed 100%. When I then

try to open the set-up file it would say that the file is corrupt.

Please tell me what the reason for this problem could be and advise

me on how to solve it.

I use Outpost 1.0 Firewall, but I doubt if it is a Firewall problem.

    Thanks.

  3. Hi

Thanks for taking the time to assist me in this.

My attempts to rename the folder failed.

( I rightclicked on the name, then on Rename, but nothing happens)

In the hope that it would assist you I have attached screenprints of the

    following:

    1. A scan by HJT. From this you will see that it stops short of the end

and does not complete. It simply stops responding.

    2. Copy of the folders that are on the PC.

(In my attempts to rename the folder I have rightclicked on the first

name (HijackThis.exe, dated 09/03/03), then on Rename - no

    response).

Your further instructions will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

(Note: I still use Win98SE on this particular machine, for certain tasks)

  4. Hi Folks

I suspect that my PC is infected with Spyware, Trojans, etc.

I wanted to post a HJT logfile for the experts to examine but I have come

    across the following problem:

When I do a scan with HJT the scan does not complete. It simply stops

responding just before the scan reaches the end.

I have uninstalled and re-installed but the problem persists.

I would really appreciate good advice on how to resolve this problem.

    Thanks.

  5. Hello Folks!

I would like to wish all a very happy and prosperous New Year, with

good health to be able to enjoy it.

On a PC that I purchased in 2000 I have been using Win 98SE.

As it is becoming increasingly more difficult to find good programs

that could still be used on this I would like to upgrade the operating

system to XP Home. But, I would first like to make sure that my PC

will be suitable for such an upgrade and for this I would appreciate

the advice from our experts on this.

The following are the important details of the PC:

    Processor : AMD-K6 3D

Motherboard : Max CPU Speed 300 MHz

    Actual Memory : 62 MB

Max Memory Module : 128 MB

    Disc Space : "C" - 32216 MB, free 26386 MB

    "D" - 14309 MB, free 11093 MB.

Kindly have a look at this and tell me if my machine will be suitable for such

an upgrade. Should any further info be required just post the details.

Any advice will be most appreciated.

    Thanks.

  6. Good day

I have been experiencing problems for some time now with Outpost 1.0 FW and in particular with the

updating of the definition files of SUPERAntispyware.

When I attempt to update this the usual message "Checking for updates, please wait ..." appears

as it should, but then disappears after two seconds and no update is done. I have been advised

by the experts at SUPERAS that the downloads appear to be blocked by my firewall, which is

    Outpost.

Perhaps the following info may help to identify the problem:

    1. In my "Trusted Applications" on Outpost I have, amongst others, the following listed:

    SUPERANTISPYWARE.EXE

    SSUPDATE.EXE

    2. The history of "Allowed Activity" shows the following for SUPERAs:

Reason Application Remote Host Re ... Direction Pr...

Undefined Rule SSUPDATE **** HT Outbound T

Undefined Rule SUPERANT **** HT Outbound T

    3. Notice that all of these are "Outbound", nowhere does it show an "inbound". I would have

thought that an update would be "inbound"?.

I have attempted to uninstall Outpost in order to re-install, but are also having problems with this.

I have tried to join the Forum at Agnitum in an effort to get some expert advice from members but,

my goodness!, I have never before exp. such a user-unfriendly forum such as those guys. After

I received the confirmation e-mail, which I clicked as requested, I tried to access the forum. On my

very first attempt, and before I even had the opp. to enter my log-in details, I received a notice on

screen that I have been banned, for life!, because I have been identified as a "spammer". The irony

of this is that I do not even do any marketing on the Internet and have absolutely no reason

whatsoever to spam the board, or anyone. They have branded me as a spammer without any

reason at all. "Weird" does not even come close to describing that setup.

I have always been assisted by the experts at our Best Techie forum and would really appreciate

    your advice on this matter.

    Thanks.

  7. Hello Folks

I have a "silly" question regarding CCleaner for which I

would like some advice. This is:

How does one restore the registry back-up? As you

know it is filed in the My Documents folder. How do I

get it restored from there? (I use Win98SE).

I have exp problems before, after I cleaned my registyry

with CCleaner, and am hesitant to use it again until I am

certain of how to restore deleted entries.

    Any advice will be apprecioated.

    Thanks.

  8. Hi Folks!

After I have updated SUPERAntispyware Free Edition to version 4.21.1004 I have been

unable to download updates of the definition files. It simply won't respond.

I have tried to rectify this by un-installing and re-installing but the problem persists.

I will appreciate it if the experts could advise me on how to fix this.

Furthermore, I have been using this program for some time now but I have not really

been impressed with it. Can you possibly recommend a better (free) one that I could

    use?

(I use Windows 98SE on this computer).

    Thanks.

    Gerry

  9. Thanks for the advice!. It is much appreciated.

After a second un-install and re-install of AVG the problem disappeared.

I have never exp this type of problem before with this program.

I have been using Firefox now for a long time (in fact, I have disabled Explorer

on my PC). Is it still necessary to keep Windows updated?

    Looking forward to your advice!

  10. Hello Folks!

I have had to uninstall and then re-install AVG 7.5.

At present I am in the process of updating. The download file is

    32711.9kb.

What amazes me is that, after more than two hours, it has downloaded

100% of the file, but it has exceeded that and is now adding time to the

"time left", which is increasing all the time. At present it is already twenty

minutes in excess but still adding. It seems to be downloading in reverse

now. It has already downloaded more 5 000kb in excess of the file size.

My problem is that I just don't know how far it will go. There is nothing

to indicate what the maximum could be when it will be completed. I don't

want to cancel and lose more than two hours' downloading.

Can anyone advise me on this?

    Thanks!

  11. Hi Folks!

After I have upgraded to Opera 9.51 I receive the following warning:

The system library Msimg32.dll is missing or too old, so certain

transparency effects will be slow and possibly not drawn

    correctly.

Obtaining the library from a Windows ME installation and placing

it in your windows system directory will fix this.

I will appreciate it if someone could advise me on the exact steps

to follow to rectify this problem.

    Thanks.

  12. Caught me on the machine I have 7-zip on rather than Izarc but it should work pretty much the same.

You will go to the zip file and double click it or right click and choose open with Izarc.

Then select the single file inside you want extracted and choose from the file menu to extract that file to another location (you can always extract them all to a single folder and then move them from there to where you want.

    http://www.izarc.org/tutorials.html

    How to extract files

Step 1: Select an archived file and double-click on it. If IZArc is configured correctly, it will be launched

and open your archive otherwise first open IZarc and then open the desired archived file.

Step 2: If you want to extract only few files from the archive you can select them in the file list

(Hold CTRL key to select more than one file).

Step 3: Select "Extract" from the Actions Menu or click on the Extract button.

Step 4: After Extract dialog appeared you can select the folder where your files will be extracted.

    Step 5: Click Extract button.

    Step 6: Close IZArc.

  14. Hi Folks!

I will appreciate it if you could advise me on the following matter:

I have downloaded a program in Winzip format. This consists of

    three different files/sections.

I would like to detach one of these files, for seperate use, without affecting any of

    the other two.

Can you please advise me on how to go about this?

Any assistance will be sincerely appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Gerry

IZARC is a great free zip file manager

    http://www.izarc.org/

I am not really clear on what you are dealing with.

DO you have a single zip file which when opened contains three files?

Yes, you can select them individually and select extract selection and extract each one at a time.

Or do you mean you have three separate zip files and combined they form the program when all are extracted to a single folder and you only want to extract the contents of one?

Again there should be no problem extracting just what you want; but it may not be functional until all files are extracted and combined as needed.

Or did they use a file splitter or the zip file ability to split a larger compressed file into separate parts? If so , they must first be recombined and then extracted.
