One of my neighbors did the same thing, except he hung garland between the candy canes and tied it on with red bows. Looked great. If I catch him while walking the dog, I'm going to suggest adding lights, too.I just realized (looked at the calendar) that Hanakkuh starts on Christmas Day! Now that doesn't happen very often.
