lefty1953
Did you have a box pop up on your screen while on-line? There is a virus going around that attacks mostly Windows 2000 machines. Are you running that? HAve you tried running your anti virus program and update it?
RMuffin
Running XP Home SP2, no popups, can't update my AV because I can't getonline, even through Dial Up, and yes I've scanned with everything.
quickbasicguru
Did you try scanning in Safe Mode?
RMuffin
No, I'll give it a try. But what good would it do?
RMuffin
*Update*Just tried to run scandisk, it didn't have exclusive access to Windows files, nothing else was open.Don't know if it means anything though.
quickbasicguru
Safe Mode helps because then you don't have as many programs running; viruses/spyware/malware remove "better" in Safe Mode because of that.About Scandisk, in XP, at the command line, I believe this:chkdsk -f will let you schedule scandisk/chkdsk to run at the next start-up.
