echobay
helpsvc.exe i've seen this active in my task list ...It did not cause any excessive CPU usage and did not linger in the task list . i happened to be at the computer but off line when it appeared. i don't want to see it anymore.i have my updates set to "prompt" i now realize that the help and support news updates are coming down the pipes with out any notice to me. i'm not truly confident with reg edits but willing to give this one a shot.Has anybody tried this particular Reg Edit..?Create DWORD entry called Headlines and give it the value of 0, for the following Registry Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ PCHealth \ HelpSvc \ } and if so...Does this edit look like problems would follow after edit? Thanks! echobay
Thanks for the link handplane.Nope haven't seen that site...LOL..i did google "helpsvc exe. and hit almost all the first page. That link you offered was last on the page...DOHi'd popped in Process Library and at PC and CC and ATW and determined it little threat reguarding malware or hardware stress...i guess it's a personal preference, is what it comes down to eh? i rarely use help and support.i'm more about non bias opinion reguarding windows..Have you used the tool suggested on the page? Again...Thanks for your help handplane!

echobay
Hey handplane thanks for looking... i'm a big googler too! i found the reg edit off ATW after looking it up in the task list. Then of course they had to throw in the lil' disclaimer "this edit for advanced users"...LOL ...i know more then some less then others...Um...and i want somebody to blame when i screw up the reg edit...NO seriously i usually mull over Reg edits with a friend of mine before i try it. He's had some serious medical issues and i didn't want to bother him with any 'puter stuff. This is not really a major issue...i'm maybe making it more complicated then it is... This looks like a rather simple write in to the registery...Anyway thanks for your time handplane!
