23rd James Bond Film Is Out in 2012

The "James Bond" film franchise came dangerously close to ending when MGM was forced to file for bankruptcy and put it on "indefinite" hold because of money troubles. The release date for the 23rd film has just been announced.

It was a very troubled period for fans of the long-standing franchise, including actor Daniel Craig himself, who repeatedly lamented the situation, saying Bond didn't deserve to go out like that. It seems MGM has finally found a way out of the predicament – and Bond will be back on the silver screen again, perhaps even sooner than some fans may have hoped for. NME reports that a release date has been set for November 2012, with the film going into production later this year.

Other excellent news is that Daniel Craig will reprise the role he's already played in two commercially and critically successful films, while famous director Sam Mendes will be at the helm. "A rescue deal and restructuring plan led by US firm Spyglass Entertainment recently saved MGM, which had struggled due to several box office failures and a slump in DVD sales," NME informs.

Mendes will direct based on a script by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan. From what the e-zine says, the script has already been finished. "The as-yet-untitled new film will arrive four years after Craig's last outing as the spy, in 2008's Quantum Of Solace," NME further notes.

However, it was Craig's first outing as the swift and deadly 007 that has gone down in history books as the most successful in the entire franchise of 48 years: "Casino Royale" made $594 million at the global box office. This came as a pleasant surprise even for the most optimistic, partly because, in the months leading up to the release, diehard fans said Craig would never cut it as a Bond because he had blue eyes, blonde hair and was not "manly" enough for the part.
