I am running Mandrake 10.1 with the Gnome desktop and I really like it.

I've tried Knoppix and Ubuntu as well but I'm back with Mandrake.

I want to use Firefox but it isn't part of the install package so I went to their

web site and downloaded it but I don't know what to do to get it to install.

It seems like it's a folder and the folder opens when I double click on it but

that's all that happens. There must be some procedure that I need to follow.

If this were windows, I'd know what to do. HELP!!

What do I do to install a program that I've downloaded??

Make sure you're running as root. Open up a terminal navigate to the directory where you downloaded the tarball to.

Extract the tarball and run the installer like so:

tar -xzvf firefox-1.0.4.installer.tar.gz

cd firefox-installer

./firefox-installer

If you have Nautilus set up to run Executable Text Files you can just double click firefox-installer to run.

Then add the Fire Fox icon to your menu bar.
