Hydraulic ram for IC engine cylinder

Recommended Posts

I have some 1 5/8″ diameter steel that’s cut from scrap hydraulic rams. I’ve been using pieces for many years instead of M/S and it machines nicely.
Would this be suitable for an IC engine cylinder?
I need a finished OD of 1.5″ and this would do just nicely.

It could potentially work, but you'd have to think about how the hydraulic system would interact with the engine's internal components. Hydraulic rams are usually great for converting fluid pressure into mechanical force, but integrating that into an engine setup could get tricky. The key would be controlling the pressure and flow to match the engine’s needs. Plus, you’d need to consider things like heat, durability, and efficiency. Honestly, I'd say it'd need a bit of experimentation and testing to get it right. But if you’re into trying new stuff, it could be fun to explore.
