shanenin
My son was messing around trying to see how many pieces could be jumped in checkers consecutively with a king. He was able to set the checkers up with two rows of 3 and one row of 2, for a grand total of 8 pieces that could be jumped. Are their any other configurations that would allow for more then a 8 checker jump?
jcl
I think nine is the upper bound but I'm not sure if you get into that configuration under the normal rules. _______________ |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|X|_|X|_|X|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|X|_|X|_|X|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|X|_|X|_|X|_|_| |O|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|Edit: Argh, I didn't see the king part. For kings I think the upper bound 12. _______________ |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|X|_|_|_|X|_| |_|X|_|X|_|X|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|X|_|X|_|X|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|X|_|X|_|X|_|_| |_|O|_|_|X|_|_|_|I don't know what the actual maximum would be if you played a standard game. I have a hunch that it's less than 12 but I don't trust my hunches.
shanenin
kings can only jump diagonal(all directions), so I think your method of 9 would be the limit.
