Vulnerability in Realtek Media Player

A previously unpatched vulnerability in the Realtek Media Player can be exploited to smuggle code onto a system and execute it. The problem is a buffer overflow when opening a saved playlist. The error was discovered in version 1.15.0.0, but other versions may be affected.

heise security has already noted several exploits circulating. The suggested course of action is to use another media player. The Realtek Media Player is bundled with the driver installation for systems which use the Realtek chipsets.
