After receiving a new BLANK drive, I formatted it, installed Windows, etc. Over the past few weeks, I've been slowly trying to reinstall all the apps that were on the old drive.The past few days, everytime I try to Boot or restart the machine, I receive a fatal error. The message associated to the error mentions the files services.exe. I have to boot into Safe mode and then do a system restore to a date a few weeks ago in order to get the dang thing to boot successfully. Your help is greatly appreciated.I have run Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Neither found any malicious items. My HiJackTjis log is below. sarahw Posted December 6, 2008 Report Share Posted December 6, 2008 Hi there,Welcome to Besttechie.netI'm not sure if this would be Malware Related.services.exe is a part of the Microsoft Windows Operating System and manages the operation of starting and stopping services.Some software is faulty or not created properly with incorrect code or can conflict with other software. On all my systems I have a primary drive which has the Microsoft Windows installation, Microsoft Office, and everything else is on other drives. I have all my music and movies on another drive and all my games and other software on another. This is so that no programs can conflict with my operating system, and thus less chance of a crash. This way I can also easily pinpoint which drive has the error and can make appropriate backups or pinpoint the exact problem.We'll scan for any Malware with these scanners then try to look at the exact error you are getting:1.Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or HereDouble Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.2.Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScannerClick on AcceptYou will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXTNow click on Scan SettingsIn the scan settings make that the following are selected:Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:Extended (if available otherwise Standard)Scan Options:Scan ArchivesScan Mail Bases[*]Click OK[*]Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer[*]This will program will start and scan your system.[*]The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.[*]Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.Now click on the Save as Text button:[*]Save the file to your desktop.[*]Copy and paste that information in your next post.
