chaochball
I was surfing around on some adult sites when I picked up this little doozy - a couple of its features are taking over my wallpaper with a warning message that says I have been infected by malware. Then there's a also a pop-up that spawns little bug animations that is quite aggravating as well. I see that this is a common worm but when it comes to messing with my registry, I figured I'd come to the experts! I was without AVG when I picked it up (about 2 days ago), now my AVG recognizes it but it sure can't fix it. Thanks in advance for the help and please let me know if you need any more details!Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 6:14:12 PM, on 6/5/2008Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16640)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\WLTRYSVC.EXEC:\WINDOWS\System32\bcmwltry.exeC:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007\aawservice.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehtray.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\jusched.exeC:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\WLTRAY.exeC:\WINDOWS\stsystra.exeC:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exeC:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\DVDLauncher.exeC:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exeC:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lphcvqej0egaj.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\Dell Support\DSAgnt.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exeC:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRecvr.exeC:\Program Files\Digital Line Detect\DLG.exeC:\Program Files\Autobahn\mlb-nexdef-autobahn.exeC:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehSched.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\PnkBstrA.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\dllhost.exeC:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehmsas.exeC:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgwdsvc.exeC:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgrsx.exeC:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgemc.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgtray.exeC:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exeC:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXEC:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exeR1 - Andro1d
Hello and Welcome to BT. I am MoNsTeReNeRgY22 and I will be assisting you with your malware problem today.Step 1Jotti File Submission:Please go to Jotti's malware scanCopy and paste the following file path into the "File to upload & scan"box on the top of the page:C:\WINDOWS\system32\lphcvqej0egaj.exeClick on the submit buttonPlease post the results of the scan in your next reply. If Jotti is busy, try the same at Virustotal: http://www.virustotal.com/ Step 2Please visit this web page for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofixThis includes installing the Windows XP Recovery Console in case you have not installed it yet. For more information on the Windows XP Recovery Console read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058. Once you install the Recovery Console, when you reboot your computer, you'll see the option for the Recovery Console now as well. Don't select Recovery Console as we don't need it. By default, your main OS is selected there. The screen stays for 2 seconds and then it proceeds to load Windows. That is normal.Once you have finished installing the Windows Recovery Console, please continue with the rest of the tutorial at the above link.Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log and the jotti log. Andro1d
Hello again,First, please run ATF cleaner again with the same instructions as above.Then...Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these files (if present):C:\Documents and Settings\Jeff Ball\My Documents\LimeWire\Saved\ms tease.mpgOther than that, nice job your log looks clean! Please use the following suggestions to help prevent reinfection. Also, you may delete any tools I had you download during the cleaning process.Clearing and Creating a new Restore Point to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. You will lose all previous Restore Points which are likely to be infected. Now we need to make a new Restore Point for your PC, please do the following:Click StartRight click My Computer and select PropertiesClick the System Restore tabCheck "Turn off System Restore" and click "Apply". Please give a moment as it will delete the old Restore pointsThen uncheck "Turn off System Restore" which will create a new Restore pointClick OKThe following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again. As a note, all of the tools and utilities mentioned are either free or have free versions available.Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - A very powerful tool which searches and kills malware that infects your system. **Tutorial on installing & using this product can be found HERE**SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep malware from installing on your system.**Tutorial on installing & using this product can be found HERE**SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.**Tutorial on installing & using this product can be found HERE**IE-SpyAd - Puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.**Tutorial on installing & using this product can be found HERE**Firewall A firewall is very important, in order to protect your computer from hackers. I notice that you don't have one installed! Therefore I recommend Comodo, Online Armor, or Outpost.**Tutorial on Firewalls can be found HERE**It is important to run only one of each type of protection program in resident mode at a time since conflicts can make them less effective. This would mean only one resident antivirus, firewall and scanning type of anti-spyware. Programs like SpywareBlaster and IE-Spyads do not conflict with any of these since they don't have a real time scanning engine that would conflict.Windows Updates - It is highly recommend to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there. It is also highly recommended to stay on top of your updates at all times, for Windows and all the above mentioned applications. This will ensure that you stay protected at the maximum level possible. Finally, I strongly recommend How did I get infected in the first place?
