Dan
Hi,Welcome to Besttechie.net.First of all, I notice that you have Spybot's TeaTimer running. While this is normally a wonderful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with HijackThis fixes. So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:1) Run Spybot-S&D2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts5) Restart your computer. You can reenable TeaTimer once your system is clean.Next, please Download NoLop to your desktop from one of the links below...Link 1Link 2Link 3First close any other programs you have running as this will require a rebootDouble click NoLop.exe to run itCarefully type or copy and paste this series of characters into the lower text area labelled Insert CLSID Here. Include the {}:{88C9B3C7-06B6-5C05-CFEC-C09DBC10CC30}[*]Now click the button labelled "Search and Destroy"<<your computer will now be scanned for infected files>>[*] When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK[*] Now click the "REBOOT" Button.[*] A Message should popup from NoLop. I hope that my computer is now OK eventhough it still has a detection of 1 virus and 1 infected object.Take care and I hope this is not the end of our communication but also hoping the next topic is not so much about virus infections. You're welcome to dine at my restaurant anytime you are down under....Yours,Miller
Dan
Hi,Everything looks fine now Take care and I hope this is not the end of our communication but also hoping the next topic is not so much about virus infections. You're welcome to dine at my restaurant anytime you are down under....Haha I appreciate that.We have a couple of last steps to perform and then you're all set.First, let's reset your hidden/system files and folders. System files are hidden for a reason and we don't want to have them openly available and susceptible to accidental deletion. Click Start. Open My Computer. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading UNSELECT Show hidden files and folders. CHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.Next, let's clean your restore points and set a new one:Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points)1. Turn off System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.Click Properties.Click the System Restore tab.Check Turn off System Restore.Click Apply, and then click OK.2. Restart your computer.3. Turn ON System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.Click Properties.Click the System Restore tab.UN-Check Turn off System Restore.Click Apply, and then click OK.System Restore will now be active again. After System Restore is turned back on, create a Restore Point:Go to: 'Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools', and select System Restore. In the System Restore Wizard, select: 'Create a restore point'.Click: NextGive a description to the new Restore Point. (Something like: Clean PC)Click: Create
Dan
*Also, to learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this article by Tony Klein:So how did I get infected in the first place? This article includes important ways of how to keep safe, and has links to programs that you should download to keep spyware free! Some programs that I recommend:Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.If you wish to submit a complaint about malware, please click on the following image:Finally, one of the main reasons for your infections is P2P programs, such as Limewire, or Kazaa. You downloaded a few infected files from there, probably thinking that they were clean. I do not encourage the use of P2P programs, because they go against the Besttchie.net Terms of Use and can easily infect you like that.Have a good day and stay clean!
