Trojans/viruses/spyware?[RESOLVED]

Somehow my husband's computer has been taken over by popups regarding trojans, viruses, etc. which have also changed the home page. I ran Highjack This and got the following message

Hello and Welcome to BT. :)

I am MoNsTeReNeRgY22 and I will be assisting you with your malware problem today.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe

Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).

Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

I have to admit that I got impatient and tried different things to fix this myself. Based on an earlier post to me, I downloaded ComboFix, but it didn't work either. By that time, I hadn't gotten any help from Norton, Uniblue, HiJackThis or Combo fix. The problems kept getting worse so I tried another antispyware application - Spyware Doctor from PCTools. I ran it and it identified 3 Trojans as well as other high risk spyware. It removed all the threats and the computer is running great now.

I'm happy that I had a success story to share.
