Been on holidays and didnt have to worry about computers. My brother has been using it and said it froze a few times when using 2 or 3 programs at once but no pop-ups. it used to run so quickly! .. think i might have to clean some things up and partition the drive.Ok so when i got back, i enabled everything that was in the startup directory in msconfig so heres my new hijackthis log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 1:56:49 PM, on 19/03/2008Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16608)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\csrss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\EvtEng.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\S24EvMon.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\WLKeeper.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exeC:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\cisvc.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\CTsvcCDA.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\crypserv.exeC:\Program Files\Dell\NICCONFIGSVC\NICCONFIGSVC.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\RegSrvc.exeC:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\sdhelp.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Softwin\BitDefender Communicator\xcommsvr.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Softwin\BitDefender Scan Server\bdss.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Softwin\BitDefender Update Service\livesrv.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\wmiprvse.exeC:\Program Files\Softwin\BitDefender10\vsserv.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\alg.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\bin\ZCfgSvc.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\ifrmewrk.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxsrvc.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exeC:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\quickset.exeC:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exeC:\Program Files\Softwin\BitDefender10\bdagent.exeC:\Program Files\Creative\Creative ZEN\ZEN Media Explorer\CTCheck.exeC:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exeC:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Distillr\Acrotray.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_08\bin\jusched.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Intel\Wireless\Bin\Dot1XCfg.exeC:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Mobile2\Application Launcher\Application Launcher.exeC:\WINDOWS\stsystra.exeC:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\DVDLauncher.exeC:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exeC:\Program Files\Spybot - it says "The task manager has been disabled by your administrator." I am the admin though.. Also, in the services list theres two suspect looking things. One has absolutely no description, nothing. its just a blank space. The other one has just a square character (like the kind you see on web pages that are in a different language) I dont think they showed up in the log or not but im not experienced enough to know. Thanks heapsSam

samuel3838
After re-enabling all the items in the msconfig startup section, it started saying "task manager has been disabled by your administrator". Kept having to go into the registry to fix it. Ive also just installed bitdefender 2008 total security which helped with the taskman. It now hangs on the shutdown screen for some reason. (just says 'Windows is shutting down') but then im forced to hold the off button down...thanks for your help Edited March 31, 2008 by samuel3838
sari
Samuel3838,Sorry - I didn't realize you had replied to this, and I was away for part of that time. Let me review what you have and I'll post shortly.sari
sari
samuel3838,Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.Close all other windows before proceeding.Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts. When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply. Thanks, sari
