dvilimek
Hello,Having issues with my broadband LAN connection, and even my ISP has given up. I’ve recently moved from Bell Sympatico to Rogers Hi-Speed – I’ve never got my PC to work with the Rogers modem, but my fiancée’s Mac works fine with the modem. Here are the details:• PC is plugged directly into modem; there are no issues with limited on no connectivity – it says the LAN is “connectedâ€â€¢ ISP was able to detect connection, but could not explain lack of Internet activity• ipconfig release and renew have done nothing – according to ISP, the IP address is fine (ie. It is not starting with “169.254â€â€¢ TCP/IP protocol set to obtain IP and DNS server addresses automatically• I’m seeing very low packet volume received• Norton Firewall is disabled/Windows XP firewall is off as well• Network card is Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller• Driver edition is 4.25.0.0• OS is Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2• Model: Dell Inspiron 6000It is evident to me that something is blocking the connection – I’ve had this happen to me before when I would try to use broadband wired connections in various hotels. Wireless connections always worked though. My only alternative is to have the Geek Squad visit my home for $149.99 plus tax. Would like to avoid this! Many thanks,D
Falcon1986
1. Have you tried accessing web pages through different web browsers on the Dell?2. Are any of your browsers configured with proxy connection settings? If so, disable it.3. Try running the Internet Connection Wizard through Network Connections. It will be labelled as "Create a new connection" from the left-column menu.4. Go back to the Command Prompt, type in ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter. Wait for 30 seconds and enter the final command ipconfig /registerdns and press Enter. Try accessing some web pages.5. What happens when you try to ping google.com? Go to the Command Prompt, type in ping google.com and press Enter. Are packets being sent and received? What is the response time in ms?

hitest
I've used this before in windows when I've lost my connection.1. Click the Start menu button on the Windows taskbar. 2. Click Run... on this menu. 3. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'cmd' (without the quotes) in the text box that appears. A command prompt window appears on the screen. 4. Type 'ipconfig' (without the quotes) to view the status of the computer's IP address(es). 5. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'ipconfig /release' to let go of the address. 6. Type 'ipconfig /renew' to obtain a new IP address (whether or not the computer is holding a current address).
