Earth Quake

hi team ime reporting a pretty big earth quake

north of where i live

the small city where it happened has had plenty of damage

tho there were injurys

so far no reports of deaths

the city i live in is about

900 to a 1.000 miles from the epi center

but i felt it

just like your house was doing the twist

first it felt like

a small shake then it went side ways

as ime used to these small shakes it can be a bit acary

i havent seen a report of the damage

other than the local news report

it must be pretty scary for the residents of gisborne [the city]

Wow, 6.9. Thank God for the somewhat limited injuries (can't help thinkin' what a 6.9'er would do to L.A., San Fransico, etc.). Watch out for the after-shocks.

here is a news report of the earth quake

from the local news media

what ever size isnt very good for the citizens

we are used to it,here on a smaller scale

the the city i live in does not get it as frequent

as other centers near the epicenter

i agree if a quake like that struck

a place like san fran cisco

there would be loss of life

hope it dosent happen

when i was a young boy

i saw the film

of the sanfrancisco quake

and it scared the s---- out of me

Quake size downgraded

The earthquake which rattle Gisborne and the East Coast has been downgraded from 6.8 magnitude to 6.6

It has been revealed the earthquake which has damaged buildings in Gisborne was not as big as originally thought.

GNS scientists called it a 6.8 magnitude to begin with, but by using a different scale they have found it actually measured 6.6. The quake was centred 50km offshore and 40km deep.

GNS says the distance protected Gisborne from the full energy of the quake since the further away from the epicentre, the more the energy spreads out.

Scientists say it is likely it was caused by rocks of Pacific Plate sliding against the Australian Plate. They say there have been surprisingly few aftershocks.

A Gisborne business owner is shattered following the destruction of her store. Bernina owner Stephanie Butler says she and her family were at the back of the house having dinner when the the quake flattened the building. She says she has been there nearly 30 years and it has come as a massive blow.
