I've got the wireless router, and 2 PCI cards, but was told to hook these 2 together is a major chore. (Also that I need a " network buoy", whatever that is). Both PC's had OS's on machines, so I have no discs for either. Is it something I should let " someone who knows" handle? I'm kinda techy, but not advanced.

Go for it. You will learn valuable information even if you cannot get them connected.

Make sure Workgroup names are the same for each machine. Machines can have different names. Test to make sure the router can communicate with the machine fartherest away. Once this is done retry network/neighborhood on each machine.

Tips:

In router use static Ip address

Ping ip addy of other machine. open command prompt type "ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -t"

No quotes, -t will give time of the ping, xxx is ip addy of course.

Disable firewall, your router will be your firewall.

Look into Netbeui This may be what network bouy was refering to.
