bobbynichols
usgs.gov only listed the quake as a 5.6 in my email alert. Up here in the Sierra foothills. a two hour drive N.E. away from the epicenter, nothing was felt. One of my sister-in-laws lives between San Jose and Oakland, CA. Said she 'heard' the quake as well as felt it... no damage at all. My concern is for the Hayward fault further north of the incident (think Oakland, California) now getting more stress from the release down in the Milpitas/San Jose area. The Oakland area has been 'waiting' for the big one from the Hayward fault; as has San Francisco from the San Andreas fault. Thank you for your concern Marty.my email alert from usgs.gov:Region: NORTHERN CALIFORNIAGeographic coordinates: 37.432N, 121.775WMagnitude: 5.6 MlDepth: 9 kmUniversal Time (UTC): 31 Oct 2007 03:04:54Time near the Epicenter: 30 Oct 2007 19:04:54Local standard time in your area: 31 Oct 2007 03:04:00Location with respect to nearby cities: 8 km (5 miles) NNE (32 degrees) of Alum Rock, CA 11 km (7 miles) E (91 degrees) of Milpitas, CA 15 km (9 miles) NE (45 degrees) of San Jose City Hall, CA

JDoors
Though I missed most of the newscasts today I haven't heard any bad news about a quake (guess I could look it up, it's the Internet after all). The only evidence I've seen is on another board where there's a thread titled something like, "We had a minor Earthquake today." The main event may have been out in farm country with only minor shakes in populated areas (out there it's as common as a rain shower, "What's that? Oh, it's nothing.").
