Anti Spam Laws

Recommended Posts

on wednesday the new zealand anti spam laws

become law

where big bizness cannot target your compt

a ministry has been set up where you can complain on a website

and if the biz has broken the law they can be fined up to $200.000

this is internal

policy

and one of the problems

is american

spammers who cannot be stopped

untill negotitations

which are underway at the moment

and as result they can target your compt untill the law

has been changed

and we have an american rep here discusing this problem

i think he is called an embasidore

this has taken over 3yr to come about

i welcome the legislatio

THO

i havent had email spam

for 4 years

tho i got it thick and fast

when we were at techtv

and when i first came to g4

when george bush came to power

he said

i quote

we will stop email spam

in the usa

does any one think email spam has been stopped

in the usa

ps

i stopped mine by setting my cookies to block

and when i switched to broadband

i made my email address so complicated

it would be hard to

fluke my address

which was a suggestion from my isp

an example

the address starting with

zy0yt ect

would take many millions of combos to crack it

ok i know there are many cynics out there

but we will have to wait and see if the law works

I'd rather trust anti-spam tools (created by smart people) than rely on government intervention (which will fail, they're not smart and they make compromises because, well, that's what politicians do).

I get NO spam in my mailbox, I have a "suspect" mailbox that I check occasionally (some stuff I sorta-kinda want winds up there, nothing important, plus a few spam mails, easily ignored without opening), and a "Known Spam" box that I never check (in fact, it's set to delete everything automatically, I set to do that after a trial period of checking it to be sure nothing "good" ever gets in there -- it doesn't, it's ALWAYS spam, so now I never look).

I've found with any government intervention, be it spam, sales calls, or whatever, they a.) Can't stop international businesses anyway, b.) Make compromises that allow unwanted stuff to get through anyway, and c.) Businesses find ways around the law because laws are not flexible, but technology is.
