martymas Posted August 10, 2007 Report Share Posted August 10, 2007 hi all ive had problemswith ubuntu i had a dual boot with xp and ubuntu on the same hdd ive used ubuntu for some time now and all was ok until i was installing packages when every thing stopped and i couldnt get in or out even rebooting didnt help ok i inserted my xp disk to fix the mbr but that was no use as i couldnt boot to either OSso i had no alternative but reinstall windows and ubuntu which ive donecan some one tell me what i did wrong why did it freeze while installing packagesif i had been able to get to windows i could have fixed the problem this post isnt to downside ubuntu can any one pinpoint my problem marty Quote Link to post Share on other sites
shanenin Posted August 10, 2007 Report Share Posted August 10, 2007 Thats odd. The fact you could not boot to your recovery console seems to be a separate issue. Maybe your hardware is going bad, possibly the hardrive. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
martymas Posted August 10, 2007 Author Report Share Posted August 10, 2007 yes i tried to get to the recovery consolei coudnt get in nor outand as a novice with linuxi was completely lost if iwas able to get to windows i could have delete the ubuntu pattitons but iwas like a man with no arms or legs i couldnt moveas it was i had to fdisk and format the hdd before i could reinstall however ive got both installed again but it has taken me many hrs to do thisand ime back in biz again marty Quote Link to post Share on other sites
