Double check you master/slave jumper settings on the back of the drives. This is your XP setup and not Ubuntu, right? Does Device Manager show anything odd?

hi mark

yes this is the xp setup

yes i had a thought on the jumper

before i got the combo i had the my cd rom on

master and the cd writer on slave and it worked fine

as this is my first dvd setup

ive discarded the cdwr

and gone for the dvd

the jumper settings are they the same cdrom as master

and dvd as slave or vica versa

or do i need the cdrom at all
