Cannot Install Window Xp

hi, i'm new here.

can anyone help me solve my problem.

i have compaq v3142tu laptop. before this, i using window xp home edition. then , i try to install linux ubuntu ( i want try to using 2 OS). but the problem is, during the installation prosess i Accidentally delete my window file including window recovery file. now i using ubuntu. all hardware running ok except wireless. ubuntu cannot detect my wireless. i cannot surf internet using my wireless.

i also try to install my window back. but error message appear. the installation cd cannot detect my hard disk.

i, hope some can help me fix this problem. tq

if you go into the bios setup screen, does your harddrive appear their?

this computer using WinFlash Utility for HP Notebook System BIOS - Windows-Based. ( i check in hp web)

can the bios detect your hdd

you need to have it detected there before you can use it

in my bios

i can scan for detection

if youve have installed ubutnu [linux]

you may have to fix the mbr

to boot back into windows

try it then post back

I think that is happening because ubuntu uses an ext3 file system. When the windows installer checks the hardrive, it does not have a place to install it(it does not understand ext3). You will need to use a live version of linux(like your ubuntu install disc) to delete all of the partitions. Then when you boot with the windows cd it will work

1. boot with the ubuntu disc

2. open a command shell

3. enter the following command

sudo cfdisk /dev/hda

Delete all of the partitions listed, you will just be left with unallocated space. Make sure you choose "write" to finalize the operation. WARNING: This will make all data on the drive unusable.

The next time you boot with the windows install cd, it should work properly.

hey that is a good tip to know

normally

i was told to insert the xp cd go to

the instaltion page press repair

at the prompt

type your drive number

mine is 1

then your adminstrative p-word

then type

fixmbr

and verify it at the bottom of the page

is that the same fix

ive just coppied and pasted that tip into my note pad
