Fishsticks
Hello,Thank you in advance for helping me. In the past few days I got hit with something strange... upon startup my Windows XP gets what appears to be a Microsoft Windows login popup entitled "Connecting to www.coloradosheep.com" asking for a username/pw. I cancel it, and everything else seems to behave okay, but everytime I reboot and log into windows the same thing happens.Scans with Ad-aware, Spybot, and NAV 2005 found nothing. I ran HiJackthis and the log is pasted below. If someone can please advise me on what I should do I'd appreciate it. Thank you, DaveLogfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 11:29:40 PM, on 2/4/2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 3.0\PhotoshopElementsFileAgent.exeC:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUSchedulerSvc.exeC:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\VPN Client\cvpnd.exeC:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exeC:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\IWP\NPFMntor.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exeC:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 3.0\PhotoshopElementsDeviceConnect.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs\vsmon.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10\bin\jusched.exeC:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PDVDServ.exeC:\Program Files\Classic PhoneTools\CapFax.EXEC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ltmsg.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\hpztsb07.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\hphmon04.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Share-to-Web\hpgs2wnd.exeC:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Share-to-Web\hpgs2wnf.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\RUNDLL32.EXEC:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\HPHipm11.exeC:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exeC:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliType Pro\itype.exeC:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exeC:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\ipoint.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\appchk.exeC:\Program Files\Spybot - Fishsticks
Looks like AVG Anti-Spyware did the trick! (the popup doesn't occur anymore) The scan report is posted below.I hope you don't mind me asking... is AVG Anti-Spyware a better/recommended product over Ad-Aware and Spy-Bot S&D. I guess the same goes for all the AVG products. I'm concerned that this worm was not caught by my "freshly" updated Ad-Aware, Spy-Bot, or Norton Antivirus 2005. To me it seemed that AVG Anti-Spyware was doing a heck of a lot more checking than Ad-Aware or Spy-bot did.I really don't care if a product is free or requires a subscription, or am I dedicated to a particular brand... I just want one that does the best job.Let me know if there's anything else you require me to run regarding my popup problem. Fishsticks
I ran the ATF Cleaner and Panda's scan. Here's the Activescan report (it found 1 cookie). I made sure my cookies folder was empty before I started. As info I have Yahoo.com set as my IE homepage. I found everytime I delete my cookies and launch an explorer window it puts this dave@questionmarket[1].txt back into the Cookies folder (presumably due to Yahoo).Incident Status Location Spyware:Cookie/QuestionMarket Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Cookies\dave@questionmarket[1].txt

Fishsticks
Things are running very smoothly! No popups, no problems or slowness. Everything is excellent, thank you very much! Also, my apologies for replying only during the evening hours, for some reason this website doesn't allow me to login from my job (I can only view as a guest). therock247uk
Your log is clean. Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:Detect and Remove Programs:How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.Prevention Programs: Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computerGoogle Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.Other necessary Programs: AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Three good free versions are Kerio, Sygate and ZoneLabs.
