hitest
Hello,I thought I'd post a few tips about Slackware. If you ever want to try my favourite OS these tips may help you.Setting up sound in slackware:this will be done as root at run level three#alsaconf#alsamixer#alsactl storeIssue these three commands in order to set-up your sound card.*Note to quit alsamixer use your Esc keyTo set-up your display settings run as root#xorgconfig*Note you can also run xorgsetup which will set-up your monitor automagically, but, I prefer the finer settings of xorgconfigTo add a user#adduserTo have a graphical Log-in PromptAs root open up a text editor, navigate to /etc/inittabAnd change this part of your inittab from:# Default runlevel. (Do not set to 0 or 6)id:3:initdefault:To:# Default runlevel. (Do not set to 0 or 6)id:4:initdefault:Save and exit. Reboot your computer and then you'll have a graphical log-in.Switching between graphical environmentsIf you've done a full install of Slackware, which I highly recommend then you can switch between the various desktop environments (KDE, Flux, Blackbox, etc.) by issuing the following command at the run level three prompt:#xwmconfigUse Slax to detect HardwareYou can use Slax a live CD to detect, identify the hardware on your system which will help you when you install Slackware.Slax
