Cleaning Printer Rollers

I have a HP812C printer. Works good...no complaints. However, I have trouble with the rollers getting dirty, drying out, or whatever (won't pick up paper....I have to press a little on the supply stack to get it to pick up, then sometimes picks up too many). It seems like I have to clean them far more often than I should have to. I've always used alcohol to clean them, but wonder if there's something else I should be using.

I would suggest a rubber conditioner to clean the rollers with. I think that using alcohol will end up drying out the rubber and make less pliable and give it less grip to push the paper into the printer.

Using plain water will usually clean most dust and environmental crud off the rollers. You can also find specially treated cleaning papers for printers that will clean the interier of the printer when fed through.

Thanks, sethook. It does make sense that alcohol would dry it out. For now, I'll just use a damp cloth, and see about getting some of those papers and/or rubber conditioner. I'm sure that the rollers are just too dry and hard to pick paper up very well.
