I have a New Benq 1640 in a USB 2.0 extenal prolific enclosure which is said to be compatible. I didnt have this problem in the past (about 1 month) but I think it had something to do with me reinstalling XP SP2...
My current burn time is around 16-19 minutes for a 8X 4gb DVD-R burn.. Using Nero
The odd thing is, I also have a NEC 3540 external burner at it burns at its proper speed and time. About 7 minutes at 8x......
I have had the Benq drive about 1 month and have burned about 10 discs so I dont think its dead...
The settings are at "DMA if available" in the device manager and I also have ASPI enabled..
