I have searched google for a solution, but I haven't found anything that has worked for me yet. I have a XP desktop machine and a Vista laptop, they are both connected to the internet via a Linxys wireless router. When I first added the Vista machine to my network both computers could see each other and could share files. To my knowledge nothing changed but a few days later neither computer could see the other. I have all the file sharing settings turned on. I have renamed the workgroup so it is the same on both computers. I downloaded the LLTD on the XP computer. I turned the firewall off on both computers. I even tried to add another computer to the network using a thumb drive to transfer all the settings. So far neither computer can access tghe others files. Any suggestions? Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Not sure if it matters But I am running Trend anti virus on both computers.
Thanks

It is something more in depth than something pushing on the power button. Anyone have any ideas where to start looking?
-
I have been having problems lately shutting my computer down. Sometimes I will hit shutdown, and the computer restarts. Sometimes the computer just locks up on the "windows is shutting down" screen. When the computer locks I have to manually turn it off by holding down the power button. Even when I do get it turned off a while later I will come by and the computer is mysteriously running with power on.
I have also been getting a lot of windows protection errors lately. I then go into command prompt only, go to scanreg and have to start the computer from a previous cab.
I have Panda antivirus and firewall that is current. I have run spybot and ad-aware. Still having probs! Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!!

I can run defrag! I just find it odd that defrag is trying to run on its own everytime I go to do something on my computer.
-
Not sure i fthis is related to the problem I had in this post or not? http://www.besttechie.net/forums/index.php...857entry46857
If I leave my computer on everytime I go to use it disk defragmenter is running and says 0% complete. The box disappearsas soon as you move the mouse. I looked in the disk defrag properties to see if there was some sort of automatic schedule set up or something. There is not, but I noticed that the file was created in 2000, but was modified Monday August 29th 2005. I did not modify it to my knowledge. Any ideas?
On a side note how much system resources should be free?
Thanks

Thank you very much for your help!! You say to get a good firewall, with my Panda anti virus there is a firewall included that I use. Is that good enough or should I get one of the others?
Thanks again

I think you may have hit the mark here. It may be an incompatibility with 1.0 vs. 2.0.... Hmmm.... I didn' know this:"Many USB 2.0 card manufacturers have developed USB 2.0 drivers for Win98 SE, ME and Win2000.Â
Although, all PCI/USB cards are currently using the same NEC µPD720120GC-9EU, the drivers are by and large proprietary and only function with the branded USB2.0/PCI card that the drivers are written for. In other words, the drivers obtained from Keyspan will NOT work with an Adaptec card and vice versa.Â
If you plan to use USB 2.0 with Windows 98SE and ME and your older motherboard, your only option is to purchase a card from a manufacturer that supplies the drivers for your OS" (from USB Man)
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I have a 2.0 card up and running on my '9x machine.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I have the same exact computer at home, and it works fine there. But all my music is on this computer. I had windows re-installed a few months ago, and I think it may be related to that. I found out that a usb mouse works fine, but anything that is an external driver wont work. Is there any way to re-install windows without wiping out all my files?

I am running windows 98se. I had this happen to me with 2 different usb devices. I plug in the usb device (external cd burner the first exercise) the computer recognizes it, load the drivers / software. Everything is good, and it works great. I restart the computer, and it will no longer recognize the Cd burner. 2nd device was an ipod. I downloaded drivers to be able to use my ipod with windows 98 (I tried them on another computer first and they worked flawlessly) I bought anapod, and then plugged in my ipod. The computer recognized the ipod as a removable drive. As I was using anapod I think I tried to transfer too many songs at one time and ground my prehistoric computer to a halt and it hung. I ctrl-alt-del to close anapod, ejected the ipod, and restarted the computer. Now the computer will not recognize the ipod? Yet the ipod is charging when plugged into the usb port.
Then I bought a new usb2 hub, installed it and the computer still doesnt recognize the ipod.
Any ideas? Thanks!!

I have been having a number of problems lately.
I have been having lock up problems at shutdown.
A lot of programs and folders not responding.
Internet explorer locks up when typing in address bar, but works fine when using google or my favorites.
I have been getting a lot of Internet explorer error reports, asking if I would like to send to Microsoft.
I get "System is busy" a lot lately
I have also been getting Illegal operation errors when trying to burn cd's with my Roxio cd creator5.
I dont know if any or all of this could be hijack related, but please take a look and lend me a hand if you could. Thank You!

That didn't work. Anything else I can try?
