Is it safe to delete these idx files or will problems develop if i do?

All I can tell you is it wasn't like that prior to updating xp to sp2. All idx files say they were modified on the date of the update.

After upgrading to xp-sp2 I now have hundreds of .idx files in "My Documents" intermingled with my other files. Are the .idx files safe to delete or are they necessary? Also if deleted, will they fill "My Documents" folder up again.
