You can try a repair install of 98SE and see if that helps. Here are instructions.

Windows 98, 98SE, and Me Repair Installation

    Boot from CD

Select Start PC with CD ROM Support

Change to Optical Drive A:\>D: [Enter] where D: is optical drive

Change to Win98 directory (win9x for ME) D:\>CD\WIN98 [Enter]

    Run Setup D:\WIN98>setup [Enter]

Windows setup will perform a repair install.

Settings, files, programs, drivers, etc. will be retained. May need to reinstall Win 98/Me updates.

Note: Do not allow Windows to automatically install, it won't work.

I dont think it will ask for the Pin. no.. If you can get it to boot after that then you can find the key

  2. should be simple to fix.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Simple to fix for someone who know a lot about computers.

But not to a dummy like me. :P

I'll check those links in greater detail when I get home.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

To begin insert your Windows XP Home CD and reboot you computer. A message "Press any key to boot from CD....." will appear, press the space bar to continue.

Setup will now inspect your computer hardware and configuration.

Setup now prepares your computer for install.

From this menu press "ENTER" to begin the repair install.

Windows XP License agreement, read, and if you agree press "F8" to continue, press "ESC" if you disagree. If you disagree setup will finish.

    PART 2

Now select the operating system you wish to repair, if as in most occasions there is only one, the just press "R" to continue.

Setup will now make some checks on the system.

and then prepare files that are needed to be copied.

Setup will now initialize your XP configuration.

    PART 3

Setup now needs to reboot your computer. Press "ENTER" to save yourself a 15 second wait.

Boot will recognize that the XP CD is in the drive, DO NOT press any keys, let setup bypass the CD boot.

Windows will now begin to load. On some occasions Windows will be finished the repair, if so it will go straight to Part 7. Which is the part where you arrive at the desktop, otherwise the install will continue.

    PART 4

    The repair process continues.

    Windows will continue installing.

    Windows setup will now finalize.

It is now time to restart Windows XP again, press "ENTER" to speed up process, otherwise Windows will do it itself in 15 seconds.

Boot will recognize that the XP CD is in the drive, DO NOT press any keys, let setup bypass the CD boot.

    Windows will continue loading.

    PART 5

Windows will now adjust your resolution, click "OK" to continue.

If you are happy with the changes, click "OK" otherwise press "Cancel" to return to the old settings

Windows will now apply changes. Be patient.

    Windows "WELCOME" screen.

and finally the Windows XP Desktop. Windows is now installed.

As you have repaired Windows, there should be no drivers to install. Your files should be safe, but you should always check out device manager for unknown devices, likely items are Network Cards, Sound Cards, Printers, Scanners, Graphics Cards, Digital Cameras, plus any other item you have.

  3. Ok this may be a continuation of the last thread problems with BF2 but I have discovered something. Bf2 stopped working again and i had to end its process it was frozen up so bad. When i looked at my temps on speedfan I foudn that my temps werent going down. They were staying around 57. I opened up speedfan and saw that my CPU was at 100%. Something was still using it. I opened the task manager again and saw the same thing but when I looked at my processes there was nothing really there that was using my cpu to 100 except System Idle process. I ran spybot , Microsoft antispyware and hijak this but I cant find anything unusual. If you guys want ill post my if you need it.

My cpu is a AMD 3400+

VGA is Radeon 9800 PRO it runs at 55C while playing Bf2.

Added - Oh it went away after I restarted...Is this a problem with bf2  then?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Check performance in task manger and in administrative tools under performance to see if it backs up your CPU %

  4. Hi all, I have a PC that is brand new and I have to put it inside a metal 3' x 3' x 3'

rolling cabinet. This is for the serice dept at a Chevy dealership and will roll from car to car when they are getting service. It hooks to the onboard computer under the steering wheel and hooks to a tech scanner to diagnose problems. This is a GM / Chevy thing.

So I had them make sure that all sides had vent slots put in so the computer doesn't fry up inside the case (3 sides and a door basically).

I want to use some sort of thin breathable material to keep out the dust, dirt, and metal specks that fly around inside the service area. Using something like pantyhose is not an option because of the size. I need approx 20" x 20" material. I thought of furnace filters at 1st, but wasn't sure if it would allow enough air to pass through. Also I would like to find whatever I use at say a Home Depot or WalMart so I can get it whenever needed too.

It is early, so maybe I just can't think enough yet ...

thanks for any suggestions you have

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Sounds kinda simple, but use cheese cloth, thin enough to let air pass well, plus will stop dust and its cheap

  5. My friend has a AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice core and wants me to overclock it he has an MSI motherboard how high should I go I was think goto 3600, then after a few hours running at 3600 then go up to 3800 and when you overclock can it make you processor burn out faster?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

You have no clue how to OC.

Do not touch your friends comp.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

If you have to raise the voltage to get it stable, that will cause the most heat increase, so keep a eye on the CPU temps. heat is what will kill it !!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  6. Dont know if its gone but I found my way here! B)

They let me know this morning that it was scheduled to be closed today.

May be lucky and have it open for one more day, but it is going.

That was my big reason for sticking it out there, and I doubt I will be there much after that.

Being a moderator was tough and I am almost glad to put that behind me.

Did a good job-sad to see techtv go down the way it did
