firefox - sometimes i stumble upon websites that have sounds that you can't turn off - back in the days without adblocker an ad with sound once scared the heck outta me (there was this one with a grim reaper laughing hysterically - well you can't tell it's a grim reaper when you hear it =P) diablo 2 - you can't throttle the sound on the mac version for the login site and the battle net screen that's just 2 out of the top of my heads - there's others where you can either turn it off entirely or have it at a default set volume
