Well, as a last resort - after I had posted, I went back and tried setting the clock on the recorder and surprises! - it set to the correct time.

Recently purchased a Toshiba D-R560 DVD recorder - trying to set the clock, whether manual or automatic, when I shut down, the time always shows two minutes later than the clock by which I set it. I've even tried four minutes ahead, but when the recorder is shut down it reverts back to show two minutes off. Anyone have similar problems? The clock I use as reference is an "atomic" clock.
