  1. I am not sure if the Maxtor Software has all the same features of Acronis. It is probably lacking. When you try and restore from the image that the Maxtor software created, you may not be able to resize the image to use your whole hard drive. It may only restore it to the 304.24 GB size. Then you will have to resize it again. It may just be easier to keep the recovery partition.

I think you're correct there. I had that problem with Acronis True Image 9. Thank you all for the advice. I think I'll just leave well enough alone.

  2. I just bought a new laptop computer & have a couple of questions about my HD. I've never owned a computer with a recovery partition before. First off, here is what I have.

Gateway P-6860FX Laptop running Vista Home Premium

    Local Drive Volumes

c: (NTFS on drive 0) 304.24 GB 228.44 GB free

d: (NTFS on drive 0) 15.83 GB 8.56 GB free

Now, for the questions. I used MaxBlast 5 (Essentually the same thing as Acronis True Image 10) to do a complete backup of my C: Drive onto an external HD before I uploaded any software. So, the backup is straight from the factory. Can I just go ahead & delete that D: Drive now or does it contain my operating system that the computer uses, on it?

If that isn't possible. I have the ability, in Vista, to shrink that D: drive but when I do that I wind up with 8GB's of unallocated drive space. How do I allocate that to the C: drive? Something like Partition Magic? Something free if at all possible.

  3. I use Winamp, & yes, it is hard to tell the difference between that and any other player. I just downloaded this music enhancer the other day. You can get a plug-in for Winamp, WMP, Musicmatch, & others. It seems to work pretty well. There's a free version & a Pay version. I just got the free one because....well I'm cheap. It's worth checking out.

    DFX 7

  4. I also use dBpower AMP, easy to use for straight conversions. Although, the conversion time is 1:1, basically meaning you have to wait the time for it to play to convert it. There are other converters out there that convert faster, but with faster conversion there is also a loss in quality....

Anyway, dBpower AMP is my favorite audio converter by far, I'm glad you like it :)

If your just getting a 1:1 transfer, I'd say something is amiss. It should be a lot faster than that.

  5. Macromedia Flash Player 8.0 will not function if the Adblock extension is installed and OBJ-TABS is enabled.

Workaround: Disable OBJ-TABS until an updated version of Adblock is released.

    Tools>AdBlock>Preferences>Options

Make sure OBJ-TABS is unchecked. By the way that thing is a little freaky!!!

  6. Hi there, Makai! Thanks.. I'm glad to be here. I found out about this site just 2 days before it was unaccessible, and have been looking forward to check out the forums. I hope I'll be able to play a part in contributing something for this community.

I like to check out a lot of help forums. Just to learn from other peoples mistakessuspicious.gif & this is by far the best site that I've been to. So welcome & enjoy B)

  7. A friend of mine has a Dell computer. It only came with 256 MB of Ram. So I DL'd Everest Home Edition to get her specs.

    Motherboard

    CPU Type Intel Celeron D 320, 2400 MHz (18 x 133)

    Motherboard Name Dell Dimension 3000

Motherboard Chipset Intel Morgan Hill i865GV

System Memory 253 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)

    BIOS Type Phoenix (11/08/04)

    Communication Port Communications Port (COM1)

Communication Port ECP Printer Port (LPT1)

This is the pertinent part of the specs. So when I'm looking for more RAM do I just look for PC3200 DDR SDRAM & that will aotomatically be compatible? Other than opening her computer up, where can I find out if I can just add another stick of RAM or if I have to replace the one or two that are there. Sorry, I didn't even think about looking inside her computer before I left her house. Or do all computers come with 4 slots? If she has 2 sticks of 128MB, do I have to get 2 more sticks of 128 or can I just get 1 stick of 256MB? I'm trying to obtain 512MB by the way. Any help to get me started would be greatly appreciated. :D

  8. Could somebody check this for me. I removed the infamous Vundu trojan using the Symantec cleaner. Then I ran spybot S&D, came up clean. Then I ran A-Squared which found 6 things that I deleted a couple of which were trojans(apparently). Now I just need to see if there is any thing in this log file I should be concerned about.

  9. I actually have no need for this program myself. I have a friend who doesn't know much about computers that could really use something like this. So I thought I would check it out for her. Oh, by the way, I don't a heck of a lot about computers either!! I downloaded from the link you gave. Everything seemed nice until I clicked on the "Start" button. The second I hit that button my cursor dissappeared. I am using Stardock's Cursor XP. Does anybody know where the connection to these 2 programs might be? The only way for me to get my cursor back was to boot into safe mode & uninstall "File Sharing Sentinal". Do you think it would of done this if I wasn't using Cursor XP? It really sounds like a good program, I just wish I could trust it.

P.S. While I was in safe mode I ran Spybot S&D. I found this. Smitfraud-C. It was in my temp. files. Never seen it before & Spybot usaully comes up clean.

  10. Amazing Falling Woman

This is so different; it's going to travel the internet like crazy!

When she gets stuck, left click and drag her free.....

Someone did an amazing job with this. I know two things about him:

      1. This is a geek with too much time on his hands.

      2. This geek knows how to model physics.

      Check it out. I'm impressed:

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

This is pretty cool but you forgot one.

    3. This guy has an axe to grind with an Ex-Wife/Girlfriend.

    Nice find

  11. Could someone please check my log & tell me how I'm doing? Haven't had any major problems. Just checking. Thanx :)

  12. On my Epson I can scan to OCR(Don't ask me what that stands for). That will allow me to open the document in either Note Pad Or Word. When it does it though, it has to convert it to a text document. So yours is most likely being saved as a .jpg or something similar. Maybe you have something similar to Epson's Twain?

Oops, I see you already figured that out!!

  13. Right click on your desktop. Select properties>Appearance>Advanced. Click the dropdown menu. It should be the "Active Title Bar" & "Inactive Title Bar". They should be equal I suppose, unless you want it to change sizes when you have 2 windows open & 1 window will be inactive. Just set the size to whatever you like. I have mine set at 24. B)

  14. If you are having a hard time getting into "Safe Mode" here's an easier way to do it.

From the Start menu's Run dialog, enter the command MSConfig. Click on the BOOT.INI tab and check the /SAFEBOOT box. Now when you boot, Windows will go into Safe mode. Naturally, when you no longer need Safe mode, you'll repeat the process and uncheck that box. One caveat: Don't experiment with the other settings on this tab. You could wind up unable to get back into MSConfig to undo your changes.

I found this somewhere, I think maybe on this site. It saves a lot of hassles! Good Luck B)
