  1. Well, it did it again. But it's just something I'll have to configure somehow in my firewall. I just haven't found it yet. I can fix it with the HelpCenter app by releasing and renewing my IP. It's something with my firewall though. I'll play around with it tonight. Oh, I'll let you know what all happened just in case someone else comes through with this same or similiar problem.

  2. Ok, I'm pretty sure I found the problem this morning. ZoneAlarm had blocked a generic host process from happening (launchmodem). I am assuming that this command takes place each time I go from an idle to active state or something such as that. The dialog box for this being blocked was up when I got up this morning, I just don't know why it didn't appear any time earlier.

Anyway, I guess this problem is solved as I was able to reconnect without having to reboot. If the problem occurs again, I'll check back. Thanks again for your time and patience with my stupidity. But to make an excuse for myself, this is the first time I've ever had to use or ever have used a firewall.

God bless you all for the services that you are providing.

  3. Call? That's so....personal. HA Seriously though, I'm going to bed right now. I've found a program (HelpCenter) that they have to help with DSL connections. Don't know if it matters or you noticed, but I'm using BellSouth by the way. I'll be back tomorrow evening and post what's happened. Thanks for pointing out the obvious. Sometimes, often for me, they are the most overlooked solutions.

Thanks so far for your time and help.

    God bless.

  4. What ways could I check this? I've looked at the home page for the system status and there are no updates/alerts right now. I don't know why I hadn't thought of emailing them to check more in depth. Guess I just always assume it's some software/hardware issue on my side being what I went through when I first got this computer from a friend. Loooong story.

I'll post something here when I find out. Tomorrow, I'm sure.

I've tried stopping/blocking the CTHELPER although I know it's probably nothing to do with it, but for some reason I can't even stop it through Task Manager or other programs that allow stop processes.

Again thanks for any help you can give.

  7. First, I connect by DSL. Second, if this is the wrong forum, I apologize and will repost if someone will just tell me where since I don't really know what my problem is related to. After being booted up for a couple/few hours, I lose my connection for some reason. I can reboot and everything will be fine again. I have installed, updated, and use AdAware, Spybot, Spyware Guard, Spyware Blaster, a-squared, AVG Free v.7, WinTasks Pro 5 (Trial), ZoneAlarm Free. Don't really know what could be causing it and haven't been able to find anything with the programs. I've tried posting for help on some other sites, but no replies on subject.

I will be online for a while longer tonight and back tomorrw and can post whatever logs asked. I just would like to be able to keep from having to reboot all the time. Thanks for your time and any help you might can suggest.
