Trying To Format
puterilliterate replied to puterilliterate's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Looks like I did it!! Well, ok, really Ryan held my hand and helped me every tiny step of the way. But I'd like to take credit for some of it. Hehe. -
Thanks, Ryan. It seems that my computer is running GREAT!! And to think... last week I was looking for a lake to throw it in.

What do the titles on this site mean? Do they have different jobs? Can they all do the same stuff? Just curious. I have never been to a forum with so many different titles. Staff | Manager | Moderator | Admin

I use Internet Explorer. It did NOT appear this time. It has appeared in the past upon logging into this site. I don't know if it is in the tool bar or not..... it is right next to the refresh button. Running well, thanks!! Two concerns, though: 1. When I come to this site, a "Suspicious Website" alert comes up in the security report bar just to the right of my http address bar... why is that? 2. When navigating any site, it is slower than it used to be. Anything to help with that? Other than that... WOW! I can't believe I did it!! LOL!

Oh no!! I ran the Kaspersky scan, but there was no "save as text" button! I tried to continue, thinking the save button would be in the next window, but it said I had to save it or I'd lose it. But I don't know how to save it. What do I do to save the scan data if there is no "save as text" button??

Ok, I posted my log... http://www.besttechie.net/forums/Please-Help-Me--t13934.html -
Ok, here we go... my first HiJackThis log... and I have NO idea what I am doing!! I was told to let you all know that I don't have a XP CD for my Dell Inspirion 6000 Laptop. What I do have are massive pop-ups which I never had until about 3 - 4 days ago. I also am unable to get on the internet for more than, say, 5 minutes before everything gets over run with random URLs and shuts down. (I am currently at my friend's house using her computer.) I have run SpyBot and SuperAntiSpyware, but am losing the battle!! Thanks in advance!! Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 5:39:09

Trying To Format
puterilliterate replied to puterilliterate's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Ok, I can't seem to download it to my USB drive. It goes directly to a place called "downloads" on this computer without asking me. My other issue now is that the my friend's computer is an Apple... and it is not liking the Hijackthis file at all. When I open it, I get something like this (only a lot more!!): w∆¸kÛyûfil≈€¸mi>'Opænx˘4üÃåöovp“º›ßÚoqÊnrììßy$sW«‡˘<#üà t#˚˝ui>O≥ vó≠8w∂|ûfÛŒ{H|iÙı~Õßy“ Am I correct in thinking I will not be able to do this at all with the help of my friend's computer? -

Trying To Format
puterilliterate replied to puterilliterate's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Nope, my ex-husband has everything (almost everything, I should say). And my laptop has been hit with some awful virus or the like and now I cannot even navigate the internet well, let alone download anything! I have been working on this for 2 days. I fear that taking the laptop in somewhere will cost me more than just buying a new one!! Right now, I am at a friend's house using her computer. My laptop is with me, but isn't a lot of good. -
I am trying to format my hard drive. I have googled what I can, and now have hit a stumbling block. In safemode, after I type "format c:/u" it tells me that this cannot be preformed because something else is running. A computer guy told me that is because Windows is running and the volume is in use. Sooo... How do I get into safemode without Windows? Or, how do I force Windows not to run the volume thing? -OR- is there something else all together I need to do?? Thanks!!!! (I have a Dell laptop and use Windows XP Media)
