mikex
I'm leaning towards spyware/virus. Just want opinions/thoughts on other possibilities. The link in the first post is a list of tools I will bring.M
pro1driver
i did some quick checking. some sites say to run anti virus and spyware programs. however, some also say that a JAVA problem exsists. try to update the JAVA virtual machine. go to java and get the latest JAVA download. Nerelda
*welcomes Pro1driver and gives him a big hug*I had an issues with that before on another computer. It ended up being that IE just needed an update, so it is a possibility, but I'd still definately check for the spyware/virus things as well. Another thing, if those dont fix it, check in about updating drivers for things.....

mikex
UpdateWiped Hdd twice with killdisk. Used a bootdisk from bootdisk.com for fdisk/format. Installed W98 upgraded to 98SE (didn't have a full SE cd).Installed adaware and spybot from cd with update from 11-17-04. Both found spyware, machine never connected to a phone line, or anything else. Alexa data miner come from IE. Next time you reformat scan and check it out before you connect to the internet. Used JV16 to tidy the registry, nearly 200 entries marked for safe removal. Will bring machine back to owner with a HowTo.txt for maintaince.Going take a nap now.M
