Looking For A Good Start Page

Greetings All,

I am looking for a good start page. I have lycos as my start page but, as of March 31st it is no longer customizable. I was able to have access to the local papers, local theater's, local weather, customizable sports news and such. I was also able to put special links on the page. If anyone knows of a place where I might be able to have some of the same features as above please let me know.

Make your own & you can add anything you want.

Make a Folder in My Documents.

Add the HTML document & any images & such needed things to the folder.

Open the HTML document (webpage) & drag & drop the IE icon in the address textarea to the Home icon in the Toolbar & follow the prompt to set it as your Homepage.

You could add a favicon if you wish...

Of course you will need to know how to use HTML.

Make it google, because it has little content and load fast. Or learn a bit of html and make your own. Have all your favorite sites there loads fast because it is stored on your harddrive. You also get some knowledge from building the code. I did my own and as sites dropped in content quality I remove and added something else. can also have links to folders and applications on your harddrive.

have you tried yahoo

i use a local start page

xtramsn

and it is ok for local content

tho i see it has a contract with microsoft

to go world wide

i very rarely use search engines

when i found google used our personal searches

and data over a period of time

when i was a poster at techtv c.f.h

google logged every post i made to the message board

and that p-----ed me off

now i see the white house is trying to access that data

google was trying to fight it

but now have agreed to release certain

addresses.

so search engines are out for me

instead of me going to google

i have all the data on cds

so i feel no one is honing in on my privacy

You had to do it didn't you Pat?! :thumbsup: I decided I would have to figure out how to make my own start page. I started going through those links at PC World and said screw it. I searched Google and found the following sites dealing with HTML.

It took me close to 6 hours to figure out what this HTML stuff does.

This is what I came up with. I used Notepad and created a folder in My Documents to hold the .html file I created and the Picture I used for the header plus I saved my different links in .txt files to Copy & Paste into the .html file.

I found one of my first start pages at Geocities made with Page Wizard. I decided to see if I could input my homemade start page into it. Here are the results. I need to find a different free host though I can't stand the Yahoo ads at the right. Of course they don't show in Opera.

The idea of a start page for me is to make it my Home Page for my browsers. This gives me a handy area to click my favorite most used links instead of going to my Bookmarks.

You make it & store it on your own computer.

HTML does not need a host on the internet.

Just a file on your computer.

That's what I was doing when I first built it.. If I have it hosted though I could add more pages for even more stuff. I eventually want to create a site for my NASCAR race club plus other things I am into. Playing with this helps me understand how to create these. Also if it's not hosted others have problems telling what works and what doesn't.
