Subject: Virus Warning

You should be alert during the next days:

Do not open any message with an attached filed called "Invitation"

regardless of who sent it .

It is a virus that opens an Olympic Torch which "burns" the whole hard

disc C of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has

your e-mail address in his/her contact list, that is why you should send

this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25

times than to receive the virus and open it.

If you receive a mail called "invitation", though sent by a friend, do

not open it and shut down your computer immediately.

This is the worst virus announced by CNN, it has been classified by

Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever.

This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair

yet for this kind of virus.

This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the

vital information is kept.

Alarms going off...

...security has locked down my brain and activated counter-memes....

That would be the MBR. Oh noes.

Hoax or not, I sent this message to my kids anyways....Great lesson on being "leary" with opening suspicious emails and ESPECIALLY emails with attachments!!--can't get enough lessons on safe email opening, the more paranoid, the better!

Thanks, Tony for bringing this to my attention and thanks Ahulett, Mike and Jcl for piece of mind....just don't tell my kids :D Better safe than sorry!

It's that sending of this message which allow hoax virus alerts to thrive. :(

Don't worry, my kids probably won't send it on....just drumming in "safe computing". My son especially is too darned adventurous for his own good...just reining him in! Moms nag, nag, nag! And I didn't send it to anyone else ;)

i saw that on the bbc

before xmas.

later saying it was hoax.

i blame the virus protection companys

trying to boost thier sales

the free avs are doing them out of bizness

i remember

once a company got into trouble

i think it was symantics

with sending these false alerts

so it confuses the not so

equipped user

ANYTHING that says you have to send this to all your friends immediately so they don't get infected, is a HOAX!!!

Social Engineering at it's worst, and should NEVER be forwarded on because that's EXACTLY what it's designed to make you do, and by doing so you're only proving that this crap works....

And most of these virus hoax emails are started by spammers who use them to collect the email addresses of those who forward them. After all if you are gullible enough to fall for and believe this you may be interested in all kinds of offers.
