Dems Wont Learn From History

Looks as if this "economic stimulus plan" will pass quickly, and with virtually no GOP support.

The good news, the GOP seems to be shifting back towards their fiscally conservative roots. This is a good thing, even if it is being fueled by petty party politics.

The bad news, this stimulus plan will fail. History shows it will fail. And it will fail hard. This is the type of crap the government pulled at the start of the "great depression". What did it do? Hardened the depression and make it last right up untill WWII.

At the heart of Obama's plan is of course government created jobs. Think TVA... only bigger. Much bigger. And where will we get this money for these jobs? China, the printers, etc. And what happens when the government stops financing these jobs? That's right. Obama will effectivly extend the recession.

Another core feature is a massive increase in welfare. Yep! That's right, slapping Bill Clinton in the face, Obama is now expanding the government handouts. Im sure the producers of those big chrome wheels are happy

Now, I know, more money into the economy and more jobs, that can't hurt! RIGHT? I thought that too. However, after an exhaustive study of how government intervention worsened the great depression, I now realize, Obama is really going to #$^# us up.

Every President from Calvin Coolige to Bush Jr has had the mindset that the government should help a sluggish economy, but virtually every President has made things worse. So cheers folks. This is the mother load of all government stunts, and we will pay! And pay dearly.

Cut spending and pay off national debt. Hell no. Increase spending by 50% our national budget instead! (hmmm, hasn't Bush already tried that.... for too long?) Will someone PLEASE take the credit cards away from our elected officials?

To all those people that fell into Obama's spell and thought he was the savior - CHEERS.

I'm not that comfortable with the stimulus package and I am a Liberal living up here in Canada. I guess the question becomes what happens if Obama does nothing to correct the financial mess left by Bush? Will the market completely collapse if Obama lets the market sort itself out? Obama is trying to save the US economy. Frightening times indeed!

Here is a good read on FDR and the Great Depression -

http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/FDR-s...ssion-5409.aspx

If Obama does nothing, we will be better off than this plan.

The market is funny. Ever buy a stock then see it start dropping? Soon, after you lose too much money and you can't take it anymore you sell? Shortly after the stock starts going back up! You sold on emotion and not logic.

The economy is like that. Once the recession is already so bad that everyone takes note and thinks we should do something, it's closer to the end. And every damn time, the government steps in to "help" and only makes things worse. Happened in the 1930's, and it will happen here directly.

You might be right. Time will tell. I certainly don't envy Obama. I hope this package works.

The Bush administration didn't "let" anyone win. Doesn't work like that here.

And furthermore, if Obama were white, he would not have won the election. (there, you want to bring race in, there you have it)

and the right wing press are having a feild day

Just the like left wing press did for the last 8 years?

and an example is these posts you are condeming obama

No Marty. I am holding my elected officials accountable, just like I did when Bush was in office.

Besides, that's ironic. You "condem" Bush up and down the street but you praise Obama! Hmmmm

Why on Earth would the color of his skin make any difference in how people feel about his proposals?

I simply CANNOT get used to people thinking the color of his skin is an issue.

Since I am now in a tax bracket that has to pay no Federal taxes, I am going to support all tax increases, and opose all tax cuts.

I have contacted both of my senators, and urged them to not only support the stimulas bill, but to try to at leat triple the amount of money in it, since it is just borrowed money that won't have to be paid back for 20 or 30 years, and I won't be around that long, so I won't have to worry about it.

If you have to buy ANYTHING AT ALL you're still gonna be hit by tax increases since they'll be passed on through higher prices for everything. But I get your point.

I'm of an age that won't be severely affected by the eventual collapse of Social(ist) Security, so fixing that problem, for me at least, is academic.

But I will be able to afford to pay slightly higher prices for items because of all the free stuff that President Obama promised that he he going to give us.

Personally I'm for a major stimulus package, not that I support/supported Obama.

However I disagree with the way he's going about it. Most of the stimulus package is going towards healthcare and education. A very small amount is going to green energy. I think the reverse should be put into effect. Green energy will create home-based production jobs and will mitigate the trade deficit. Also, by putting massive amounts of money into entitlement programs we are essentially creating demand that we can not hope to lastingly subsidize with the extent of our national debt.

Today I noticed that as President Obama signed the $787 billion mix of tax "cuts" (really just credits). and one of the biggest public spending programs since World War II. he warned that this was not the “end but just the beginning.”

One troubling aspect of the bill is that companies receiving the funds are not required to check SS numbers on e-verify, to ensure that workers are in this country legally. Also there is still a major push to make loans to those with bad credit.

Where are we heading as a country? Where is the world heading? The Bible makes it clear that in the last days there will come a financial collapse. How soon we do not know! The consortium called “Babylon” will fall. “The merchants of these things who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing…for in one hour such great riches came to nothing.” Rev 18:15-17. After that economic persecution will follow “so that no one could buy or sell unless he has the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.” Rev 13:16-17. Will Obama's Greenshirts (the civilian "army" that he has promised to establish, and fund even better than the military forces) be the ones who determine who in each neighborhood will receive the "mark", and which others will have their shops destroyed, and be sent to the "re-education" camps?

A local plastic manufacture near where I live just laid off about 100 people. In my local paper they interview some of the people that lost their jobs. One guy said he is not worried because we finally have a president that will take care of him and his family. I hope this guy has other plans also.

... I hope this guy has other plans also.

With more socialist-style medical care, extended and higher unemployment benefits, tax refunds even if he doesn't pay taxes, well, the list goes on and on, why would he need other plans? Unless you mean his "other plans" might include buying a new house with more government-mandated "creative" loans or getting himself one of the millions of new government jobs just mandated.
