Increase Xp Performance

Recommended Posts

This is a tweak that you will usually find out about on your own, but still, some may not find it right away.

1: Start > Right Click on My Computer and select properties.

2: Click on the "Advanced" tab

3: See the "Perfomance" section ? Click "Settings"

4: Disable the following:

Fade or slide menus into view

Fade or slide ToolTips into view

Fade out menu items after clicking

Show Shadows under menus

Slide open combo boxes

Slide taskbar buttons

Use a background image for each folder type

Use common tasks in folders

Windows will still look nice and perform faster.

Yes you can uncheck it. But if you do allot of drag and dropping, It helps to know you have what you want. It's really is up to you. Try it and move a couple of things and see which way you like it better.

Well, for those who don't want to completely lose the feel of a folder, don't uncheck "Use common tasks for each folder." This will keep that blue bar on the right of the window, which shows you the specs for a file, allow you to navigate to other places, etc...

Just as an "Aside" to this post, these are really only needed if you're on the very Edge of being unable to run XP with your current resources.

Anyone with over 128MB RAM, or over a 1G processor, will most likely see no real increase in performance with these tweaks. So if this is you and you're thinking..."Hmmm, I did what he said and I don't see any difference", that's probably why.
