Broken Add/remove

Recommended Posts

I was messing around with Compiz yesterday, which I probably shouldn't have done just yet. Now this morning I went from Applications > Add/Remove. The progress bar started rolling as it checked for installed and available applications, then it threw this at me:

I did the last bit to update and install, but it didn't fix it. I'm not sure how to check the permissions and correctness of /etc/apt/sources.list or how to check for broken packages with synaptic.

Edit: I should probably mention that I'm on the latest Ubuntu with Gnome

Did you try installing Compiz, at which time your package manager was broken?

Did Compiz install without errors?

Did you have to edit your sources.lst file manually before installing Compiz?

You can check the permissions of the file using this command

ls -l /etc/apt/sources.lst

Hi shanenin, I fixed it. Just went into synaptic, checked the 'Broken' filter, and told it to complete remove those broken packages (which were part of Compiz). I was planning on removing Compiz anyway, so now all is good. :)

As for your other questions... Nope, everything with Compiz installed fine and I didn't edit sources.lst.

Thanks
