hi bubba bob

these two citys ive highlighted because

they are at the oposite ends of the country

there have been extremes in between those two places

and this weather is extreme

at the bottom of the dunedin page

read about the ice berg that floated outside of

dunedin

i posted to the board at the time

it was the size of 4 football stadiums

the original peice that broke off was the size

of alaska

bit bits broke off as it headed north ward

ile see if i can find data for you

to me this is dam interesting stuff

you have your theorys on globall warming but so have i

and 4 million of us here

and in the pacific islands and

some which will be under water in 10 years

but it isnt a subject to get hot under coller about

but needs to be discussed

weather we believit of not

as you and i wont be around to

prove weather we are right or wrong

but my grand children will be

ile look for the link i sent at the time of the pics

and the article

because of the southerly flow of the current it only took three months

to be visable from nz

they were flying tourists

out to view this giant which had broken off

from the antartic shelf

several peices broke of on its journey

about the time when the american

footbal final was on

the mayor of a southern [who is a witty fellow]

city offered it to be built as a football stadium to play that final

and i posted the pic which was

doctored to look like a football stadium

i was all for it as ive never seen an american foot ball game

and ime a keen sports follower

he is a hellof a funny guy

but to us here in the south pacific

global warming is real

around some of the pacific islands

some of the small island are already under water

around nauru. i see closer to nz

two fijian islands had a rise

of water of seventeen inches that isnt much now

but what about later

americans are sheltered from this sort of reality

that is why al gore is campaigning

not only for the usa

but the small places

like in the area i live in

in my country inviremental issues are

discussed all the time

and practiced

but we are in a losing battle against the big

industrial countrys

who have put money before the invirement

it is an issue ime passionate about

and i support al gore

apart from politics

that is errelivant to the invirement

... americans are sheltered from this sort of reality ...

Not sure why you'd say that, it's a big country and there's a lot of acreage close to or at sea level. Nearly the entire state of Florida, the entire Eastern, Western, Gulf (much of New Orleans has been below sea level for decades) and Alaskan coasts. There are a lot of islands that would be affected (one entire state is nothing BUT islands!).

And, as we have a propensity to build our homes near water, I'd bet a VERY large percentage of our population would be affected. HAS been affected (many homes built ON the shore have already slipped into the sea).

So ... Why aren't we ALL worried, much less panicking?

Lot's of reasons, too many to go into without having to examine the human psyche, of all things.

But to address "global climate change" as part of the equation, a lot of the skepticism is the fault of the people advocating for drastic and immediate changes. First, they have made obvious mistakes or exaggerations in their science. SO much has been debunked it makes you wonder: Just how much of it IS true? Second, many of the most ardent advocates are among the worst offenders! Driving a Prius doesn't mean much when you later take your private jet on holiday. Third, the whole issue stinks of money and politics. Who stands to make money from promoting yet another "dire emergency?" Al Gore, for one. Every scientist getting funds to examine the issue, numbering in the thousands. What political agenda might this support? Gee, it just happens to coincide with a particular political slant (which we can't get into, unfortunately). And fourth, it's the ideal argument! If it's hot? Global Climate Change. Cold? Global Climate Change. Wet? Dry? Windy? Still? More clouds? Less clouds? Desertification? Loss of desert? Point to Global Climate Change and it explains ... the weather. Or what we USED to call weather. Now it's a disaster. The weather. A disaster. Mother Nature has been cooped by mankind at last. The weather is OUR fault. Perfect.

Really? What islands would these be? Wouldn't be the islands being flooding because they're sinking would it? Our media outlets already tried that piece of propoganda on us, but the truth was quickly uncovered. ;)

Believe me, if oceans rise the amount some global warming alarmists say it could, I would be underwater. However, you don't see me filling sandbags...

BTW, Al Gore is making huge sums of money off of his "campaigning" against global warming.
