Debian Etch Released!

ive just been reading your review on debian

which can be downloaded from a mirror

i tried debian once

but as i didnt have enough resources at the time

i was stretched for room

and as ime a bit of a novice at

installing any linux products from the net

i have a spare compt here

so iwas thinking of trying it

but i need a instalation tutor

what down load manager do i use

You can download the net install iso with any computer either Windows or Linux. It is a small iso about 158 MB. You will boot from that iso. It will install a base system to your computer and then ask you if you want to use a network mirror to get files from the Internet, make sure you say yes to that question.

The installation routine is not graphical, but, an easy to use text based routine where you will use your keyboard to enter information.

The install routine is a bit harder to understand than Ubuntu so you may wish to read up on the Internet before you attempt this.

Edit, added later. Youcan also order the Etch CDs for a few bucks from websites that I have pinned in this forum. If you use the full CDs to install Debian it will have a graphical installer and will be easier to do. :D

once i get to grips with ubuntu

ile try it

debian was very popular here in new zealand until

ubuntu arrived

i think the other popular choice was

susse

but my aim is debian

When you feel ready to experiment Debian is a good choice; I'm running it on a few machines.
