Evolution Mail

Recommended Posts

some time back i posted on how to get evolution mail working

ive spent the last 2 weeks trying to make it work

and have had to use thunderbird

[im using ubuntu 4.10]

and at last it is recieving and sending mail

thunderbird dosent work as well on unbuntu

as it does on xp

on ubuntu i had a lot of error notices

it may be my fault

and initially evolution mail was giving

me the same problems

but it is working now

the problem i think was the

configuration of the in mail and the out mail

jeez i uninstalled it 9-10 times

and started again

and i was at the stage were i was swearing at the thing

but it is working now

hiho silver yippee hi ho

its working

yes i agree sorry i got carried away in my first post

but i find linux a challenge

and any thing i acheive is a bonus for me

i still have a text to small problem

and i tried changing my resolution

800+600

and it made the text fine

but it increased the size of the page

so i had to revert back to the original settings

which was 1028 i think

i can change the text in the view file but once i reboot

it reverts back to the original settings

ok it is only a minor problem

but i like to get it right

my eyes are the trouble

i have to sit near the monitor

to see the text properly

you are right when ive solved some thing i let my hair down

and yell and laugh and all sorts

i wonder why thunderbird is having problems in ubuntu

as on xp it works great

ive uninstalled it several times but i keep getting those error notices

any ideas

the reason i posted was because i tried to get help

from the forum

initially

but ive solved it my self

so i decided to let the forum know what ide acheived

take care

I agree, I also have trouble getting my text to look the way I like. When I use firefox, I goto edit>>preferences>>content . Then under "fonts and colors", I set minimum font size to 14. This helps alot. This may cause a few problems with rendering on some sites, but it is not to bad.

The Thunderbird problems may be just ubuntu's build. Try taking the version from the thunderbird site, I think its a tar.gz file (a zip) and just untar it in your home folder and double click the thunderbird file. it should run.

hi iccaros

i have ubuntu 4.10

and ive been to packages

and cant find any kde packages

does kde come under another package name

i dont like firefox at all

some people like it but i dont

and one of the problems firefox is the default browser for ubuntu

i wonder if you could give me some advice

originally i had ubuntu 6.6

which a freind from the uk sent me

i had to uninstall it as i made a few mistakes

but now i cant get it to load

ive tried several times

so i had to revert back to 4.10

when i get to the windo to install

it just sits there

once i let it sit for 1hr

and nothing happened

any ideas on what im doing wrong

i set my bios to boot from the cd rom

i posted this q on a ubuntu board

an some one said maybe it was burned at to fast of a speed

that went over my headnow all my operating sys cd's

works

so may be it isnt my cdrom

i found the 4.10 isnt as quite as extensive as 6.6

but for me it is good to learn on

i got the 4.10 from the ubuntu site i signed for

a disk and they sent me six to give away

and ive done that

any help would be appreciated

as i know your expertise in this ara

Check my post a few posts back, marty:-) You'll need to use your Synaptic package manager which will help you to download, install KDE from the Internet. You can also use iccaros's way too, you'll just need to open up a terminal prompt which you'll find in accessories:-)

If you're interested in trying something else,

I recently installed SeaMonkey, and am very impressed.

It's a browser, email and chat client in one.

Looks and works just like Netscape 7 - my favorite browser from the MS Windows days.

Okay. Thanks for the reply. You've got a few options.

1. Stick with 4.10. It is an older version of Ubuntu which is no longer supported with security updates. But, if it works, hey why not?

2. If you had trouble with 6.06 you can download the 6.10 alternate desktop iso which is more forgiving of different hardware set-ups.

3. You can download Kubuntu 6.10 which is the KDE version of Ubuntu.

4. You can order some Ubuntu CDs for free. See my pinned link at the top of this forum.

Let us know if we can be of further help. :D

thanks hitest

ive just come from a nz board

and some one had hacked into a 4.10 version

there isnt any linux forum there

and only two of us are interested in linux

and the other poster is from the united kingdom

so i have to come here for my help

ive just uninstalled 4.10

when i read that i became abit paranoid

i used the grub fix tictoc

sent me and ive become an expert now

it gave me a reminder tho

prior to this problem

i never ever worried about the administrator p-word

but i had to hunt all over my

note pads to find it

now i have it pinned on my compt

2 weeks ago i read your

linux support notes at the top of the page

and applied for shipit

to send the kubuntu disks

both versions 32bit and 64bit

they said it would take 4-6 weeks for it to arrive

but in the meantime

i need to get away from windows

so i will take a look at some of the latest linux download

until they arrive

any ideas. i couldnt do it with out your help

If you want to download the newest version of Ubuntu and burn it yourself you can go to their site and get it.
