I cleaned it out and made sure all the connections were good. I still have the same problem though. After about a minute the computer freezes up and about 30 sec later the screen turns a blackish color.

The light is flashing green. I'm going to take it apart and clean it really good. Let you know how that goes.

It boots to windows and then after a minute it freezes and the computer screen turns blackish.

The screen just goes black-ish. It doesnt turn off though, the computer stays on.

I can boot the computer up with my norton cd but all the cd will do then is scan the a: drive.(if that means anything) also when I start the computer up the 10 sec before the screen goes black the computer freezes.

On board video. I dont know what model it is though (T1220 - T1440 ?) One of the disks that came with it had those numbers on it.

The computer is running Windows XP home edition I believe and it is an older E-Machine. The computer has always had its little bugs and what not but yesterday it just shut down. I restarted it and it loads up and and after about 1 min the screen turns black. I tried booting it up and safe mood and the same thing happens after one min, the screen turns black. Does anybody have any idea what this could be. Is there a way I could start the computer and possibly fix it or find out what the problem is? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Ok, think this is funny/kinda sad but here it goes. This girl I know isnt that knowledgeable about computers. And her computer has been slowing down on her with spyware. She asked me for help and I loaded Ad-aware onto her computer to help clean it up along with Spy-bot and then Spyware Blaster to help protect in the future. Ok I found out from the guys at Best Buy that my old card is a PCI express card. (Dell told me it was a regular PCI card) So any suggestions on what card to use to replace my old card?

Hey everyone. The card recommended to me unfortunately didnt work, it doesnt even fit in the slot the old video card did. Any suggestions? Why wont it fit? My old card is a 128MB DDR NVidia GeForce4 TI4600 with TV-Out and DVI. The Card reccomended was a Chaintech GeForce FX5200

It is a PCI card. I was on the phone with dell this morning and the conclusion from all the tests everybody here suggested and a few dell suggested was that my video card is spent(funny how that happens 1 month after my warranty ends). I dont think I want to buy from dell a new video card and the person I talked to said the only card is there card, and they didnt even have any upgrade suggestions when I asked. For an upgrade I really dont know what I want. Maybe a card good enough for FEAR or possibly BF2 but if my system cant handle it thats fine too, an improvement from what I had would

When I start up the computer I dont not hear a fan start up at all. The computer just stays on without a visual. I pulled the card out and put it back in and it seems firmly in place. I have a nVidia TI 4600.

The computer would not run with either of the sticks out(it doesn't start anyways though). It would only beep at me and other than the beeps I got absolutely nothing.

I did not recieve any beeps before I took the ram out.

alright i took the memory out one stick at a time and all I got was the computer beeping at me.

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 running XP pro. I keep all my software up to date for Ad-aware, Spybot, Norton System works 2004, and Spyware blaster. I ran a scan today with all my scanners and nothing showed up. I had BlueJay running( writing some programs for class), internet explorer, and aim running.
