  5. I have a question on the Microsoft starter free edition of word and Excel that came on my Dell computer. The computer is over 3 years old but this just started about a week ago. Every time I turn of the computer, I get a message which flashed up saying there is an update on this program and just click Yes to download. I Feel this is an virus and have not clicked on it. I've had several like this in the last month or so. Last one was from the post office asking me to click on the delivery label to print it. this was a virus. do you know if there Is there a pending update on the free

  7. Chuck, since I'm on a streak, when I run Malware every once in a while, I get this in the results. Do you know what it is ? Registry Keys Detected: 1 HKCR\AppID\{D616A4A2-7B38-4DBC-9093-6FE7A4A21B17} (PUP.Optional.Wajam.A) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
  8. O M G, Chuck your suggestion worked. I should have tried that before typing in the last response which took me a long time. I can't thank you enough for that help, you saved my sanity and having to go out for another bottle of Jack Daniels.
  9. Chuck, thanks for the help, I'll try that. I'm 70 and not very good with this stuff. This problem just started, I've been using them for some time. If I hit Documents, all of the Excel and Word folders are orange. If I click on one of them, a screen opens and shows how to purchase the program. It also says, that the program to open these files is not on your computer. It's been on there for a few years. I don't have the disks to reinstall the program. The strange thing is that if I hit start, all programs, Microsoft Office Starter, and click on Word OR Excel, they open all the fi
  10. I'm not sure if this could have caused this, but I just had Microsoft/Windows update a few days ago. I'm using the starter edition of Microsoft office which came with my Dell computer. Desktop running Windows 7 Home. If I click on Documents, all of the Word and Excel files have a orange folder icon and won't open. If I open the program, they will open. I put in the thumb drive in the USB slot that has all of my backup files, and they also are orange. Since I don't know much about computers. I don't know what to do. Any Ideas ??
  11. Chuck, again when I clicked and opened the link to adwcleaner, a big warning opened up from McAfee about this site contains several virus. I just don't wish to take a chance and get wiped out again. I'm going to remove McAfee and install Norton and try it again. This may not be for a week or so. I'll open a post or continue with this one at that time. I do appreciate your help, I'm just gun shy to hit the download key since coming off the last problem. I did reinstall Malware before I started this and the first time I used it, it did remove four entries. Sorry, at that time I just h
  12. OK, I'll try it, and , like I said, I'll not very good with this stuff.
  13. Thanks, but whatever it was, it wiped out the OS. I could not even get it to boot to the CD. The shop did a clean sweep of the hard drive so I hope they removed it. It was like new out out the box again. Thanks for the help. I'm 70 and not very good with computers. I'll try the site again and see what happens. I can't understand why all of the warning were on the site. I'm having an issue with McAfee and will probably dump them for Norton.
  14. I found the cool stuff on this site. I went to download and my McAfee popped up and said a virus was attached. I just went through a Trojan that wiped out the OS and it cost me $140 to get it working again.. so you think this is a virus on the download.
  15. I'm not much with computers and I was told to use msconfig. I understand there is a program to do this and not use msconfig.
