It's a little odd and definitely unfortunate if there is no backward-compatibility, but you kind of have to draw the line somewhere, sometime. Since it has so many other cool features, whatever the controversies, people will eventually start buying it, and that may just be what they planned.

    Say what

WHO are their clients? Other seniors?
  3. A couple were interesting - but new restaurant chains and websites didn't surprise me (I am thinking younger folk than myself who never had a life without those things might be more surprised than I was).
  4. Blech! Doin' it all over again. Tried all those things again, for whatever reason Twitter works now (can't tell what fixed it). Google Groups displays, but it won't let me sign in (the page just refreshes). I can sign into my Google Account, go to Google Groups and I should be signed in, but I'm not, the Sign In button is still there. Click Sign In, page refreshes without indicating I'm signed in ("Sign In" button is still there). Go back to Google and I'm signed in fine. I can find the "old" Google Groups (read only) and I'm signed in! Dammit. Some control is disabled and I can't figure it ou
  5. I just squeaked under the wire. I had my number, but it was all over before I was called. Two older brothers went though, one served several tours, the other, one and done. Both had some ... "memorable" ... stories. I wonder how much things have changed for troops since then?
  6. Anybody wanna buy a kidney? I want those speakers.
  7. Not long before this story came out I saw an episode of Workaholics (on Comedy Central) where the main characters were all huffing what appeared to be computer cleaner. The show is basically about three irresponsible guys, but I thought showing the abuse of something so readily available was particularly irresponsible. I have to wonder, could there be a connection between that teen's death and that episode?
  8. In this day and age, ANY woman is gonna mess you up sooner or later if you make "demands."
  9. Maybe June (I think that's the Mom's name) is losing weight for the trip - You nailed it!
  10. Sounds plausible. Don't know how that would affect running Windows in Admin. mode and the "fix" of disabling DEP actually worked ... that would take too much thinking to understand how a site not listed as ok to run flash would begin working with DEP disabled. My brain!
  11. ... also happens with drunken roommates, let me tell ya.
  12. Wowza. Some people spend that much filling up their tank just for driving around town!
  13. Update: Got Twitter to work by adding it as a Trusted Site. Gonna hafta look up the consequences of that (though I feel OK about it since I use https with Twitter). Whatever it changes, it fixed the page loading issue.
  14. Couldn't figure out a way to use the Fix-it-now tool in a user account. Unrelated (or so I thought), in Control Panel/Action Center I had a notice that Skype reported issues with IE so I should update to the latest version (which I only JUST installed Skype anyway so ... I guess I just happened to get the last version). Google Groups works now, but Twitter does not. Google Groups threads will load (and faster than usual too ... hmm), but Twitter will not load anything beyond the first items that display on the page. At least I don't hate Chrome quite as much as I used to because I am forced to
  15. Ooo ... interesting. Gonna try it. Drat. One option: Run. No option to download. Gonna try a few other tricks with it though ...
  16. I did the Java thing. Updated, tested, running. Tried it both enabled and disabled in the browser, no difference. Since the MS IE website "Fix It Now" solution worked in admin mode but not signed in as a user account, thought I'd sign back in as an admin to see what changes the fix-it tool made. Can't find a damned thing different.
  17. I'm stumped. Say I go to Twitter, the Twitter feed loads the first group, then it will not load any further. The spinner wait symbol just keeps spinning, I can't click on a Tweet to open it (to reply, for example). The left column only loads my information and the Twitter contacts box, the rest of that column never loads. Say I go to the Google forums, I can get to the YouTube Help forums, the page loads the list of posts, but if I open a particular thread, only the headers load and a small box that says "Loading" just sits there. No question, no text, it just sits there, a blank page (except

    Oddest dream

Wow, dreams about a specific website. Well Jeff, don't make a liar out of him, bring on the ads!
  19. I hope so. I believe misguided attempts at gun prohibition will fail to produce any results, just as misguided attempts at alcohol or drug prohibition have failed (other than wildly expanding Government authority). Murder is prohibited, how's that working? "Oh, we just need to add MORE prohibition laws and the problem will be solved." No, it won't. Prohibition as a means of attacking a problem is a complete failure. If we spent all the money we throw at drug prohibition on other programs, you have to wonder if that might not be more productive, less of a failure, and less of an infringement on
  20. Do you know if third-party programs have this failing, such as CCleaner and others like it, that provide their own uninstall utilities?
  21. Sounds like they could do a reality show on this, make some money in the process. I would watch THAT over ANY OTHER reality show currently on TV.
  22. "... instead of building the spacecrafts from scratch, Golden Spike is looking to recommision old hardware from NASA and SpaceX." Err, no thanks!
