I do a lot of work with computers at school (embarassingly enough computer editor on yearbook staff) and all of our school issued computers suck because of restrictions! No right clicking, can't do anything with control panel, can't do anything i need to from time to time!

In the past I've fixed messed up key issues by removing the screws at the bottom of the laptop and removing the keyboard, then re-securing its connection. That may solve your problem if you haven't already done so

I've also got the WRT45G, a little bit of driver problems (at least with mine that I purchased around 6 months ago) SAVE SOME TIME AND GO ON THE WEBSITE AND GET DRIVERS BEFORE YOU CALL INDIAN TECH SUPPORT! I believe the website was linksys.com/easy and it fixed the problem

I'd recomend booting into safe mode (Safe mode on XP, VGA on ME) and then run MSCONFIG to check for programs that are booting up upon startup for you. Disable ones by using common sense and reboot your computer to see if its working any better, then try running norton, but this may take a little trial and error.

As stated above - either a kid, or somebody with too much time who's reading your blog. I have read in the past that on AIM you can send a file transfer to someone then open something on DOS with a log showing the IP the file was sent to, but it's not worth your time to fool around with it

It was normal 7,200RPM, I think I might stick with a normal (no-raid) configuration. However, can anybody tell me from personal experience if WD Raptor (10,000RPM) drives are any good? I had the idea of getting the smaller Raptor (30-something GB) for OS and applications and a separate large capacity drive for data. Several Newegg.com reviews described the Raptor's burning out and failing or being really loud. I personally don't care about the noise factor, but I don't feel like having a HD die out on me - any thoughts? Speaking of Raptors, i just checked the price on Newegg and 36.7GB dr

The MSI card looks nice, especially the price. I will never do SLI since I'm not a hardcore gamer, and I doubt my parents will take up the hobby. As far as RAID, there was a high end display computer we had at work (you know, clear case with lights, so a bunch of idiots come in and stare at it for 30 minutes then leave ) with RAID 0, and I really liked the speed - I'll have to think about it

Planning on building PC over Christmas break, it's a family PC - so it will be used for some gaming, moderate video editing, "backing up" DVD's, and photo editing (along with Internet and so on) It will be replacing the current family PC - obsolete Gateway with PIII and 384 MB RAM - and in a year I leave for college, leaving the computer with my parents so it has to have quality brand parts because they won't know how to fix it (also won't overclock it for same reason). The SP2 upgrade is crap unless you install XP w/SP1 then immediatly upgrade to SP2, whenever the computer has programs with SP1 then you make the switch a few things get shaky, such as Norton

I've found it easier in the past just to not worry with partitioning everything unless you do extremely specialized work

All you have to do is pop out the stick you want to replace and put in the new one (with the system off of course) That's all to it - in case you need pictures or anything I'm sure you can google for a instructional guide

yeah, just hook up the combo drive as master on it's own IDE cable - something you should do even if you have 1 ATA hard drive and 1 Optical drive - if you put the two on the same ATA ribbon cable you will run your hard drive at a CD drive speed
