  1. Ahh thanks, I thought my Firefox is using 64 version, but it apparently that Mozilla haven't got into it. I went to IE 64 and got the 64 file.. I have one small annoyance. When I am attempting to install a few java file in my computer, it failed to see there a java 64, I have both 32 and 64 because of the browser. It keep saying that my computer is x86, So I uninstall the x86 one (i have to completely reinstall x64 because uninstalling the x86 completely remove every bit of Java even the 64) then reinstall 64, Java able to see that my computer is amd64 and using the 64 version. When I use the x86 browser like Firefox, it didn't see the 64 and stated that Java is not installed. How I am able to get Java to see that 64 is still there at the same time, the 32 stay installed?

  2. Ok I am not sure if Oracle actually screw this up or it just me. I just upgrade my computer to Window 7 64 bit, and need a Java 64 bit. I thought Java already given me the x64 by using the online download. But When I check the Control Panel, I found out it is using the 32 bit. So I went looking around in Java website and it keep pointing me to the "64 bit download site" which it is a 32 bit version. Anyone know the actual download link that is directly to 64 bit? Or any way to get it? the 32 bit run just fine on my Window 7 x64 but I would like to have the 64 bit version. Oy I said "64 bit" too much.

  3. Could be one of the generic drivers got damaged, go to start / run and type

    sfc /scannow

(note space after sfc , and before /scannow)

    hit enter

It may prompt for you windows install cd if it finds a missing or damaged system file and there is no backup version saved on the hard drive.

If so , pup it in when prompted.

Done that when I suspected a possible corrupted system file two weeks ago. the SFC didn't detect the problem.

Lately my computer starting to have problem like Standby mode, the processor is still running (fans still running) which that is not right because in the past, if I put it on standby mode, the processor would power down and fan is turn off. So from that point, I decided to do a clean install. It is not a big deal for me because almost all important files is in one folder, so easier for me to create a backup. I went on my Ubuntu and mount the NTFS partition and transfer that folder to my Ubuntu partition. then start to Clean install on the NTFS partition. Everything work so well so far, the network problem seem go away, and finally my computer can see the networked printer and installed the driver for it. It appeared that there must be a rogue software in my computer preventing it. So far, Clean install fixed the problem and I become a happy camper now.

Thank you for helping me with everything. It appeared that solution and solution did not work. one of the reason why I decided to clean install. And now everything is fine. and Im a happy camper. Thank so much for helping me

  4. Lets see, what version of Eraser do you have? There was an issue with an older version of it. So you may want to uninstall it and install the newest version.

Already installed a new version of Eraser

Have you checked in task manager / process viewer to see if there is an instance of svchost.exe that is using a lot of cpu cycles and/or ram? If so it generally points to an automatic updater (an antivirus updater, google updater...) that is jammed. Disable all automatic updaters (Including changing windows update to manual) restart the pc and then manually update each thing (your antivirus, google, acrobat reader, flash player....go to secunia software inspector and run and check for older vulnerable versions of applications which need to be patched or removed and replaced with the new version).

Checked that and al are updated. I forgot to run the Window Update once in a while and it all patched up. and ran it again and all dectected good. one thing I noticed in my task manager, why do I have 10 svchost.eve running? 6 months ago, I used to have only 4 svchost.exe running and now it got to.... 10!

As I mentioned earlier, sandboxie is running . Look in the list of running processes

    C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\SbieSvc.exe

this could be the source of your problems.

Sandboxie is already disabled, it no longer running in my process list for a long long time (I already disabled the services as you asked me to) and I uninstalled it.

Have you tried a "Clean boot" or safe mode with networking?

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;316434

this will identify if it is windows or an application that is running that causes the problem.

One problem, I am unable to go to safe mode for some reason. I believed the mup.sys is corrupted or gone. because It stop at mup.sys and restarted for no reason. So basically I can't get to safe mode if mup.sys is not working. I believe when i got to safe mode one time, it was loading all of those .sys file and then there was a power cut off in the middle of safe mode booting, ever since then, Safe mode is unable to run, even with networking and cmd prompt. that was like last year. can my XP CD repair the issue? I know it able to repair Window itself but not sure if it can repair safe mode. it is the real XP cd, not those recovery CD.

Note that while tcpsvcs.exe is a valid file name, if it is using an abnormally high number of cpu cycles or you have other indications of an infection it may have been replaced by a trojan.

    http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2002-021121-4532-99&tabid=2

    for example.

Scan with MBAM if you have not yet done so. (ah, I see you did so that rules that out).

that process is not showing anything weird, so doubt I have any trojans. And I already ran McAfee Stinger to make sure and it found nothing.

  5. Disable dr watson. If the error that caused it to launch re occurs it will launch again as needed

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/188296

    Disabled

Apparrently you did not disable it completely or the service would not be running.

I forgot about the services. and I got that disabled along with the startup disabled as well.

Are all computers on the network affected or just one?

Is it a wired or wireless network? If wired, check / change cables. If wireless change the channel to see if maybe there is a problem with a neighbor using the same channel as you are.

I did asked my roommate about it. She say that she didn't noticed the difference and Don't have that problem. Like I said, My Ubuntu (installed in the same XP box) is not affected with the problem. So again it pointed to XP partition, something going on in XP that is having a problem. I remember back in original XP, there were reports that there is a problem with TCP/IP stack that have this similar problem and SP1/SP2 suppose to fix the problem. Possible it is that? And I already changed the network cable many times, it not the network cable. it somewhere between the internet and the keyboard (hopefully you know what that mean =-) )

  6. I'll leave it to the besttechie malware team to interpret your log. Just posting this reply because it was requested that I look over your log for you.

    Did you install this ? C:\Program Files\Everything\Everything.exe

They will need to know if it is the search tool that replaces windows search, or the social networking manager, or if it is the virus you get from an email.

I use Everything for my window searching tools. It was with me for a long time before the problem occur and it have no access to network because I don't use it for network searching.

Wait a minute: You are running proxy software C:\Program Files\Growl for Windows\Growl.exe and wonder why your Internet is slow?????

    http://www.growlforwindows.com/gfw/help/proxy.aspx

I use Growl for Window for my Android Notifier, which mean my android phone got any form of message will send through the network to my computer then Growl will display what kind of message I am getting on my phone. Again, I recently installed Growl last month. the problem occurred last year. So I would doubt Growl for Window have something to do with it

And you are running a beta version of firefox ?

I just using the Firefox Beta version last week. so Again, I compare the speed between 3.6 (stable version) and 4.0B6, the beta one is more responsive but still plague with the network slowness.

Unless you are a software author trying to debug drivers or programs you have written yourself this is unneeded

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

Go to control panel => system => advanced => startup and recovery => settings

Change "Write debugging information" to "NONE" , apply and apply and ok and restart computer.

Nope, I'm not a software author and I just put the setting to none

Do you know what triggered DR Watson? O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [DWQueuedReporting] "c:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\DW\dwtrig20.exe" -t (User 'SYSTEM')

    Need to clear this up.

I have no clue what is going on with Dr Watson, I noticed it pop up on my process list very often times to times. I kept wondering is there something going on in my computer what would fire up Dr Watson? I checked the event viewer that have something to do with Dr. Watson and there is no log about it. But yes, I noticed it did pop up from times to times for no reason. And I don't know what trigger it

And you are running everything in the sandbox? No wonder you are slow

    O23 - Service: Sandboxie Service (SbieSvc) - tzuk - C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\SbieSvc.exe

How can Sandboxie affect my network? I use it so rarely. In fact, I never use Sandboxie for my Firefox, I am not that paranoid heh :matrix: I only use Sandboxie to open program that I never heard a company from. The last time I use Sandboxie was like.... 5 months ago. I already disabled Sandboxie month ago because I rarely use it (no auto start up), and I wonder why HJT show Sandboxie is running. I already check the task manager and it not even there

  7. Well, if you know anybody else that has an AT&T Modem, borrow it. If the modem is bad and she bought it, then she will have to buy another one anyways or stay with the slowness. Can you post a MBAM and a HJT log and let somebody look at it please. Do the logs in the Malware section.

Interesting thing going on. After updating my Ubuntu 9.10 (haven't used it for a month), the problem didn't affect my Ubuntu, everything is fine and load really quickly, all image loaded as it was suppose to. There is no "page cannot display" error at all. And my Ubuntu able to see my networked printer just fine (without HP driver, tired to use their driver but the script file that they provided refused to work for some reason) and I am able to print just fine. So that would mean it point to my XP is the main problem. That mean something going on in my XP is slowing down? I already post the HJT log and no one is replying to it, so I would assume that there is no problem? The other way is to clean install XP? and hopefully that would solve the problem?

  8. MBAM reported clean computer, but again my network felt slow for some reason. so Is there anything in my computer that have possibility hidden stuff somewhere?

  9. They test anything on the modem and they said that the result is showing all system ok. then why do I keep getting a "Page cannot display" every 5 min and it always 4th reload to get the page reload. there is one more problem, I didn't realized the account holder (I already asked her permission to let me speak for her for network and she granted everything to me) that she brought the modem from ATT, didnt rent. so If the the tech show up and said it the modem, she have to cough up 80 bucks to replace the modem. I told her that she brought the modem, didnt rent it. She told me that she didnt got a choice and have to buy a modem. If they say they tested the modem and it showing everything is fine, then what am I gotta do with the problem? Im showing all unstable latency (a problem for me if i am playing a MMO which happen often -_- ) and my cache is already cleared and i already flushed my dns, and it still having the same problem. my Ubuntu box reporting the same problem. I already told ATT Level 2 tech support about this and they said my modem is showing no problem

  10. I been all over this trying to figure out the problem. The problem is that my network been slow for no reason. I already ran a few speed test it it is at 5mbps down and .4 mbps up. And I ran a ping test by using pingtest.net and found nothing wrong there, it all stable and showing normal, like 16ms latency, 2ms jittery with no packet loss. It just felt something is wrong because my Firefox couldn't load the page, I have to click try again 3 times to get the page loading. Last year it wasn't that bad, only have that error like 5 times a day, but now it increased to 100 times a day and it really annoy the heck out of me. I thought it was a DNS issue, so I switched to OpenDNS and it still having the same problem. I check with Chrome, it reported the same problem. What make it worse, recently, a few pages stop loading images for some reason. I already scanned myself for spyware and virus and the result said I am clean, I am not using any program that taking all of my bandwidth, even I don't have my torrent on yet. Only thing that is actively using my bandwidth is my firefox. And I already clean out my cache, I set my cache to be clean out everytime my Firefox close down. I'm using two Firefox, a 3.6 and 4.0b6, they both have the same problem. so basically all my web browser is having the same problem. Is there something that ATT is throbbing my network? And I rarely use my torrent, it been a while since I used it i would say like 2 months ago.

  11. Anyone help me with this? Had a few modification recently. Due to a connection problem with my videophone, so I had to make my WBR to be a switch and it work well. So basically after doing stuff trying to make my networked printer to appear on my installation. I went to HP.com and get a HP Home Network Diagnostic Utility program and ran it. It found my networked printer just fine, but the setup still not seeing the printer in the network. Since my WBR is the switch, that should give a direct access to my gateway which a center hub for my internet. So I thought it is a possibility that it the Firewall policy that blocking the connection? So I went to Window Firewall and found a bunch of expection for HP program and they all are repeated name. it like 15 clone of them in it. So I removed them all and still having the same problem. Any help on this?

  12. Updated: It works well few weeks ago with the HP software and I uninstalled it to get other software add to it, and try to find the printer again, it unable to find it for some reason. so I decided not to bother with the connection through the wireless.

I moved to a different room and closer to the router this week, so basically, I connected 2701HG-B Gateway to my WBR-2310 and my computer is connected to my WBR along with my video phone device. Few days later, I realized that I am able to use the wired connection to get a better connection with the printer. So I get the HP software again and run it. it still unable to find it. the printer is still connected to the 2701HG-B Gateway. I am able to access the printer web UI by entering the printer's ip address and the web ui is working just fine. So the software ask me to search the printer through ip address or the host name. So I enter the address which it is 192.168.1.100 and it failed to find it, so i enter the host name and it still failed to find it. So I changed my printer address to 192.168.1.90 by changing the setting in my 2701HG-B Gateway and try again with the software, it still failed. I Don't believe it my WBR is preventing the connection because my Video phone device is hooked up to it and anyone able to call me without any hiccup. I led to believe it the 2701HG-B Gateway that causing problem. and I know 2wire is infamous for their problem by letting the Telcom to set their own software in 2wire router. I changed the cabling that connect from 2701HG-B Gateway to my printer and it still work fine. so it not the cabling, it something that 2701HG-B Gateway is not letting it doing anything. Any Help on this?

  13. My roommate and I are sharing the printer, we have HP all in one printer, a last year model. We decided to have it hooked up to the router since the all in one printer do have the ethernet port. Her laptop (using Vista) found the network printer just fine and printed the paper just fine. And my Xp did find it but a few weeks later it disappeared from my Printer list. So I attempted to add a printer and click on Network Printer and have it find it for me. It still couldn't find the printer that was connected to our router. I check on what IP address that my roommate laptop show the printer. and it using 192.168.1.100 address. So I add the ip to New Printer stuff, and it still invalid. No matter what I do, XP still can't find the printer. Any help on this?

  14. Wow... that really fixed the problem. I did uninstall it through the device manager in the past. However I did it once again recently and fire up Wireshark while streaming is happening. for 10 min, there a very few RST. I would say it cut down 95% of the RST happening. I just uninstall it and then restart, then the window see my wireless card and attempting to install the driver by itself and then it work perfectly. I haven't tested the online game playing but will test it soon.

  15. Yes it still Linksys. I am using the Window to manage my connection. in the past, I had a issue with Linksys program managing my wireless, That was like 5 years ago. It never find my router, that time it was a Linksys router, for some reason the program still unable to find it. So i switch it to let my Window take care of it and it instantly see my router and connect to it just fine. That the reason why I prefer to let window do it. If you feel that I should let Linksys to try to manage my wireless, I would give it a try.

Ok I been reading on it. It said that I have to disable something then it will make wireless turn on. I am not sure if that wording on that guide make sense since English is my second language. It said that make sure the status is disabled then check the wireless is Enabled. That when I got confused with it. I am not sure what it really want me to do.

I unseat it then re-seat it. I only have one a regular PCI bus on my motherboard. And done that before in the past. Removing the wireless in the device manager, you mean like right-click the adapter and disable it then re-enable it? or you mean reinstalling the driver? If you meant both of them, Yes I done them before.

  16. Today, I just ran a wireshark to capture anything while I am playing online game or watching a stream video and web surfing. I am not sure if it very common for ISP to do. I knew they usually do it on p2p but other stuff. For my online game, playing it for good 5 min to get good information, I got 800 RST error. Then I create a new capture and capture while I am watching youtube stuff, It shoot up 1800 RST in 3 min. Curious where those RST is coming from? could RST affecting the latency?

  17. I have this problem for a while, well more than a year. My box have Window XP and Ubuntu Karmic (9.10). Here the problem I am having. I have the same problem with my old PCI card and the current PCI card. The signal is great! however there is some form of high latency happening. It not like a high latency all the time, but it like a short burst of high latency in random time, between 10 sec to 40 sec. And it affected me greatly since I do play online game and web surfing. My PCI card is Linksys WMP54G with hi-gain antenna (the antenna is a gift from a friend). And my router/gateway is ATT 2Wire 2701HG-B, both of them have the latest update. The distance between my router and my box is like I would say 15 feet with 3 walls between it. If I use the normal PCI wireless card's antenna, it will show like 2 bars our of 4 bars. With hi-gain antenna, it usually full 4 bars. This is a problem occur more often in Window XP than my Ubuntu Karmic. Which it is the reason why I used my Ubuntu Karmic for my online games since it handle the connection better and it more stable however the burst of high latency is still there, it only occur every 15 min. In Window XP, it occur random time, between 10 sec to 45 sec. and in XP, there is a random drop connection like in every hour or so and it will re-connect before I notice any connection drop out. I know this because I seen my Window XP notification box popping up saying that my connection is re-connected. But it never happen when I am using Ubuntu Karmic, only just burst of high latency. This is the same problem with my old PCI card which it a Aircard 101. but it have low signal than my new one. Which it is why I brought Linksys card last year.

And It do affect my web surfing. I thought it was the browser that have the problem. But I tired on Chrome, Opera, Firefox and IE, they all showing the similar problem. And I already tested with the DNS, and it proven that it not the DNS. I used the ATT one and the OpenDNS one. they show the same problem. When I surf around the internet and proceed to open a link, there is some noticeable non-responsive when the browser is attempting to re-solve the connection. Refresh the page solve the problem. but this problem happen like 40% of the time. Same thing for streaming, like youtube.com, the red bar on the player is growing and then stop mid-way. It just stuck there until I refresh the page, then it will go full. Ubuntu showing this problem on the Firefox as well even using a different DNS.

Everything is on the latest version. Even the router. How can I solve this problem?

  18. I am hoping this is possible, i have XP SP2 hook up with Linksys PCI wifi card and connected to ATT 2wire router. I was thinking if it is possible for my computer to act like a wired network? I know about the Wireless Adhoc, but the router is in the other side of the house. If wired adhoc is possible, then is it possible to get my computer hook up to a wired router to provide network to other device that need network?

  19. my wireless adapter cause a hang to my computer sometime. I am using Realtek RTL8185 54M Wireless LAN Network Adapter. When i first install the driver for my wireless, it came with the utility and installed the connection utility software along with the driver. I told window to take control of the wireless network. but no matter what, everytime i start up my window (i dual booting with my primary OS, Ubuntu) the utility software keep taking control and cause problem for some software that need network access like World of Warcraft for example. So i uninstall the utility and the driver is gone. so i explore the self-excract .zip file and see what is inside, and found the .sys file that Window need for the driver to run my wireless card. So when the New Hardware Wizard appear, i told where the correct file is, then it proceed to install that driver and it work fine. my Window took control the network, and i able to get in World of Warcraft just fine. But here is one problem that keep reoccurring. If i use a something that require more bandwidth than what World of warcraft or Firefox need, it will simply hang the computer then it back to normal then 10 sec later it hang again, it will keep doing it again and again until i restart or disable my wireless card through it window network utility then re-enable the wireless, it went back to normal. I cant use my Utorrent or game downloader like Wow client install (i have to reinstall wow because of issue with game), it will simply hang the computer.

I disabled the firewall, the antivirus program, or anything that running in the background that possible cause program with my wireless but it still hang the computer if i use any program that require more bandwidth

my ISP is ATT and their 2wire router is automatic updated and so far there is no update for the router.

    Any fix on this?

AMEND: Look like it stop for now. I recently went to Window Update and found they have a driver, a updated driver for my wireless card. the current driver i am using is 2005, i been looking everywhere to find a updated driver but Window Update got it for me and i install the update. So far, it working fine, there is no hanging right now. So hopefully it will stay that way, but if not. i will report back and ask for help again

2nd AMEND: i spoke too soon, it still hanging again

  20. I did the adjustment on the game setting to 75Hz and 1024x768 to match the Nvidia setting. and plus it was default on my monitor 75Hz and 1024x768. so i went to Supreme Commander to change the setting, it went fine but i need more testing to make sure it wont show up again.

In wow, it already in 75Hz and 1024x768 setting, it still showing the glitch, i noticed the glitch occur when i change zones. but sometime changing zone didnt affect the glitch.

And i never overclock my nvidia card. i just let it run whatever it on default.

And it is already seat properly and it screwed on the case as well to prevent un-seating.

EDIT: I just did a few more playing with Supreme Commander game, it still showing the problem. And i already update it to the newest version. it still the same problem.

  21. Hello, i am having some strange problem with my nVidia card. I already ruled out my moniter because i switch both of it and they are showing the same problem. here what it look like

    hsdfajpeg.jpg

I tried to use Print Screen to capture what it look like, but when i load in it irfanview, it showing fine. This problem only happen in Wow and Supreme Commander game. But never had a problem with Star Wars Battlefront 2. Only way to get rid of that glitch is to Alt Tab then go back to the game, then it will go away but in sometime it glitched again, and i have to alt tab again.

I have two OS in my box. Ubuntu 8.10 and Xp Home SP3. I ran Wow just fine on Ubuntu using WINE without a issue. But in Window, it showing that glitch. I already have the latest update of nvidia driver. i read in some forums reporting that the July 2009 driver have problem with some nvidia card so i downgrade to March 2009 driver, it a little improvement but still showing the graphic glitch. my graphic card is nVidia 7900 GT 256MB.

    Any help on this part?
