Yes, in any case those are high temperatures for the CPU. That is quite a difference in temperatures, but in any case you should look at better cooling methods.
Before you go buy any cooling components you should first try cleaning up any dust from inside your PC, around the fans and organizing your cables. Use canned air if you have it. I usually detach my fans and clean them off with a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol. I've noticed that after I arranged my cables by tying them up away from the intake and exhaust air streams my motherboard temperature dropped by 5-degress!
If, after the general housekeeping, your PC is still reporting high temperatures it may be time to look at better/more cooling. How many fans do you have in your PC? How many intake/exhaust? Do you have a good heatsink-fan (HSF) for your CPU?

I've written some articles in my blog on some simple networking projects I've done. I recorded them there after I had to perform most of the stuff by "hit-or-miss" since I couldn't find any articles at the time about those topics.
Some of the interesting ones:

Right now I'm using the integrated video on my MSI board. So just uninstall those and install the ATI?
If you are working with integrated graphics you should first uninstall the drivers for that chipset, reboot into the BIOS and disable the integrated graphics. Should there be an option to "redirect" graphics output to another device, e.g. your new AGP/PCI-e graphics card, enable it.
Save the settings and shut down the PC.
Install the new graphics card, attach the monitor cable and boot up, then install your Catalyst drivers. Cancel any prompts that Windows may present when it automatically detects new hardware.

When I find unidentified devices in Device Manager I just:
1. Right-click the device and select "Update Driver"
2. Select "Install the Software Automatically (Recommended)" and OK.
3. Windows will scan all locations for a driver, one being Windows Update.
4. If a driver is found it will be installed automatically.
I find that Windows Update usually gets the those hard-to-find drivers. If Windows Update installs a driver and identifies the device you can easily look up any updated drivers from the manufacturer's site (usually better than the ones Windows installs).

Ever since DAP 7 I've stopped using it. It had too many ads in the window, although they could be blocked from your software firewall. I too would recommmend MetaProduct's Download Express. It's small, free and has no ads.
I've found that the download manager in Firefox works pretty well, but then again I can't complain about speeds on cable internet.

I have a Nvidia chipset on my mobo and am thinking of throwing my ATI 9600 All-In-Wonder video card in the mix. Will there be any conflicts in doing this.
If you are upgrading from an old card remove the old drivers first no matter if the old card was an ATI. If it was an old nVidia card you will have to remove the Forceware drivers in order to run an ATI card with their Catalyst drivers. After proper uninstallation through Add/Remove Programs use Driver Cleaner Pro to clean up any traces of the old stuff.

There is also a similar tweak in TweakUI that does the same thing and does not require going into the registry. Just add a check mark to the drives that you want to display and remove the check marks from the ones that you don't want to display. Hit 'OK' and changes take effect immediately.

its slower and i tried the sbc yahoo dsl test twice and got like 100- 300 kbs
now before i had 1.7 mbps on a 3mbps connection and i havent changed connection
is it cause of me sharing internet with another laptop or the wireless router?
1. Are you using network encryption? Sometimes encryption slows down the speed between the PC and the AP.
2. Are you using P2P apps on any/both of these PCs? P2P apps not only can take up bandwidth from downloading, but even when idle they are still vigorously sending data in and out so the connection stays alive and so your searches will yield more results.
3. When was the last time you power-cycled your AP/router/modem? I occasionally do this after using P2P applications because somehow my WRT54G v2 (firmware 4.20.7) can't handle BitTorrent downloads for a very long time. Also this gives your AP/router/modem a chance to rest and renew/release any info.

If the files you ripped to your computer are in the VOB and IFO file extensions then all you need to do is change the root folder of all these files to VIDEO_TS and import the files into DVD Shrink.
DVD Shrink's default setting of 'Automatic Compression' will fit the files onto a standard 4.7GB DVD. You can manually configure the compression, but the auto setting usually works best.
If your DVD has extras that you may not want you can just choose to create a DVD with the main movie.
-
You need to get the MPG files converted to VOB and IFO files that the DVD player will be able to read. You just can't drop any files into VIDEO_TS.
Import the video using Nero Vision, follow the wizard and the application should encode the video into DVD-readable format.

Im building a system for my brother in law, well while im looking around on newegg for the cpu i figure a AMD 64 3500+ would be a good pick but im stumped on which core to choose Venice (219$) or ClawHammer (231$) im wondering would the difference of the core really make that much a difference
so far the set up is
CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939
Amd Athlon 64 3500+
OCZ Gold Series 1GB (2 x 512MB)
DIAMOND GX800XLPCIEWB Radeon X800XL
Antec TRUEPOWERII 430W
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA
PLEXTOR SATA DVD Burner Model PX-716SA/SW
the case, monitor, speakers, keyboard, and mouse are up to him to what suits him the best
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Go with the Venice core. I believe the Venice core was a step-up from the Clawhammer core.
The Winchester, Venice and San Diego cores are all 90nm SOI, whereas the Clawhammer is 130nm SOI. The newer cores work on a lower voltage and power but still give good performance comparible to the previous cores, so they produce less heat.
The Venice core also supports SSE3 which previous cores do not support and this includes the Clawhammer.

I'm trying to do this:
http://www.petri.co.il/download_the_full_ie_package.htm
how do I run a CMD in a specific folder?
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hey! Use the command cd to change directory, so if your default is in C:\Documents and Settings\User Name>, then in CMD:
C:\Documents and Settings\User Name>cd C:\
C:\>cd C:\Folder1
C:\Folder1>cd C:\Folder1\Folder1_01
C:\Folder1\Folder1_01>
and so on...
Or download the CommandHere Powertoy for XP, install it, right click on the folder you want to run a command in and select Open Command Window Here.

You may only be addressing OS updates but the OP asked about software in general in addition to updates.... we are talking M$ updates here ...<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I am thinkin' it's one of those legacies from the past; fewer and fewer programs recommend turning of AV, AV has gotten more intelligent, installation programs have gotten more intelligent, and XP, because of the way it 'compartmentallizes' programs, probably has less of a problem with the issue.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Norton applications or any of the latest AV programs will slow down installations at times (since they usually scan files as installation files are being extracted) and maybe this is what may cause problems on sub-Win2000 PCs. Win98 and WinME would probably get overwhelmed and give some error, but Windows XP should be able to do a better job.
I have had the experience of my Avast 4.6 Pro prompting me during the installation of Windows Messenger 5.1, but I ignored it and I don't have any problems now.

The good people at mozilla.org have released Fire Fox 1.0.7 today.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I just downloaded the new version after seeing the notice mentioned elsewhere. It did not show up in Firefox's update alert, but even then, I feel more comfortable just downloading the whole thing from the site and installing.

It looks very technical and I know I will run into problems configuring and using it, not because it may be buggy, but because I won't know what to do. I've used Sygate Free and Pro before, so I think I'll go with Sygate and leave nVidia's firewall to sleep.
-
Do you have unpartitioned space that you can use or is the drive you are using already partitioned and formatted?
-
there no such thing of nVidia Firewall, you should aware that nVidia is a graphic company

My Asus A8N SLI Deluxe motherboard came with a large software package and drivers. I noticed that it had an nVidia software firewall, which I never knew nVidia made. Should I use this firewall? Is it any good compared to the Windows Firewall or other free firewalls?
Thanks.

The two video cards are connected by a video bridge connector for lack of a better explanation by me at this point. You then connect your monitor to that and both of the cards feed information into it. That way you don't have to have a proprietary special montior, although that would have made them more money haha.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
You haven't seen a SLI system, have you?
I have an Asus A8N SLI Deluxe but I'm using it in single GPU mode with a Radeon X800XL in one of the PCI-Express x16 lanes. When running in SLI you would require two identical SLI-compatible graphics cards that you insert into both PCI-Express graphics slots, then you attach a small SLI bridge connector that links both cards together. With the A8N SLI Deluxe there is also an activation chip that you must insert correctly to activate SLI (in single GPU by default). You then connect your monitor cable to the graphics card inserted into the leading PCI-Express slot (usually the blue slot). No cables are required to be inserted into the other card. Your manual will then tell you what to do.
All SLI-compatible motherboards will come with a manual that explains how it is done with their boards. Furthermore, the SLI graphics cards will come with their own similar documentation.
You can learn more about SLI at SLIZone.com.

I made it. I'm still getting my bags unpacked. Hmmm! The new place looks pretty good.
[sniff]But I'll miss home...
Just a couple of minutes ago (2:08pm EST) the G4 Tech Support board was still working. Now that I'm here I'm perusing the threads. It's amazing the amount of people who migrated! I'm recognizing some of you guys from your avatars. Good!
Don't forget home, though. I will keep visiting the G4.ca forums where the Call For Help Canada board is to continue offering assistance and asking for it when necessary.
Somehow, I feel as if Besttechie.net is for tech support pros and I feel like a noob! Hahaha!

Can you start the PC in safe mode without it showing this message?

Detach your DVD and CD drives; you're just going to see if the HDD boots.
1. Ensure that you have the HDD jumpers set to "Master", that the HDD is attached to the end of the IDE ribbon, and that the IDE ribbon is inserted into IDE_1 on the motherboard (assuming that your only other IDE port is IDE_2).
2. Turn on the PC and enter the BIOS. Apply the setting "BIOS Defaults" (or whatever wording is there) and reboot.
3. Enter the BIOS again; enter the HDD detection area to see if your drive is being detected. Ensure that your HDD is set to "Auto". Reboot.
4. Enter the BIOS again and set your boot priority to start with your HDD. Reboot and see if Windows loads.
BTW - Do you know what make/model of motherboard you have?
