  1. Thanks Pete C. I did go ahead and do the prefetch, and I did the code stuff stater. I also did the copy and paste to the notepad for AOL, ( GUESS WHAT) IT IS GONE!! Thanks again for all your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My pc seems to be ok now.
  2. How to disable the AVG add-on in my Internet Browser? AVG 8.0 Free Edition contains a plugin for scanning of search results in Google, Yahoo and MSN search engines.   3. I am TRYING my BEST to follow his advice. On startup ( Big fix,Persistance, Host manager,swg,IgfxTray) is NOT in the list. And I have NO IDEA how to get to internet explorer. I also tried to and thought I did disable AOL. Thanks
  4. It is a lot better on general performance and back up to par on connection ( I am on dialup) Can't get anything else for now. I also went from 1gig of memory to 2gigs.   5. That's just it, AOL is not in my add/remove list in controlpanel. This is what the box that pops up says: The AOL Connectivity Service is not running Restart your computer and try again.
  6. I have done everything that Pete said, and I am going to switch to Firefox. It seems to be almost back to where it was on "THE GRAND SPEED" for dialup, but I am having problems getting rid of AOL. It keeps popping up a message that MY AOL SOMETHING,SOMETHING is messed up and I need to restart my pc to fix this problem. I tried following the tutoral that Pete suggested But, I guess I did something wrong. Also the AOL is still in my tray, and it still seems to turn itself on. Readyboost copies files used in bootup and loading of programs you use a lot to the flash drive so that they can be copied directly from it to RAM rather than having to find them on the hard drive each time.   12. Ok, I disabled the resident shield an checked on the firewall, it is Windows Firewall. I also got my 2gigs of memory yesterday and installed it. I'm still running (TURTLE SLOW). It is hard to figure out wha to do, since there is SO MANY suggestions. Can your ISP cause everything to slow up?

  14. Hi Liz, I'm not sure what you are saying on the Windows firewall. To be HONEST, I don't know what I am running. This whole computer thing has got me on my last raw nerve. I hope this is what you were talking about (THE SPECS) Windows Vista Home Basic, 65.5 fre hard drive, 1gig memory, AVG antivirus (that will not update).   16. I am having trouble with my computer running REALLY SLOW. I am running VISTA home basic. This started around the time that SP1 was installed. I have never seen it run this slow, even on other computers. Not sure what the prob. is, but SURE COULD use some help. By the way I am on dialup, so downloads are not so good. Thanks Wanda

  19. I did the ATF cleaner, Malwarebbytes, and I tried 3 times to run the Kaspersky scan. I am on dial up so it kept knocking me off line before it could finish loading. 1'st time was 2 hours, 2'nd time 1.5 hours, 3'rd time I thought it was going to work, 3 hours and off again. Is there a shorter one that I can load?
  20. I turned off my antivirus, but now when it tries to open Windows says the program stopped working and they will let me know if they find a solution. As you can see I am a computer dummy or I would know how to get around this.

  23. I bought a SANYO (VPC-S500) digital camera. I have 2 computers, #1 has XP on it and #2 has VISTA home basic.Where do I go to find the driver or whatever I need to put my pics on the VISTA pc? I called SANYO and they told me to get it from Microsoft. It works perfect on my XP, but that pc cannot handle much more. Not REAL computer smart, so forgive my ignorance. Thanks for any info you can provide!
